Yeah, I've gotta say - the appeal of this series is how awesome and wild the plots get. Imagine a Metal Gear plot with all of the insane convolution and long-winded motivations and speeches, but everyone's wearing a tacky suit.

I enjoy Yakuza the same way I enjoy the Fast and the Furious movies. I care enough about the characters to find it engaging when they drift a sports car out of a skyscraper and into another skyscraper. Anything else you can glean from the games are an added bonus.

Makoto is just a cute, very innocent girl caught up in all the madness and she is the catalyst, along with Lee and that other guy, for turning Majima into what he is in the rest of the series

To me, this isn't true. Majima flat-out says in 0 he's just gonna pretend to be a wackadoodle because he thinks crazy guys who like to fight are cool

I don't see how it felt natural, but 0 was my first game so maybe it will make sense in retrospect. Either way I appreciate you putting your thoughts out there

And I'm sorry if I've given off the impression I expect high caliber writing. I'm just commenting on the pacing, motivations, and decisions characters make. I love all 3 that I've played so far

Well, him letting go of Makoto and allowing her to live a normal life was him shedding all aspects of his past and fully embracing his future as a crazy fuck. When she got shot was when he really dove into the persona and decided he was done pretending. The other two showed him how care free he could be, but Makoto gave him something to really fight for. You can see that in the rest of the series with how he treats and interacts with Kiryu, who is the only other person he will literally do anything for (and one other person I won't say).

This was entirely in service to his true goal, which they allude to in 0, but only gets properly resolved in a later game.

I am finally picking 5 back up so hopefully I hear of it. No real spoiler but I'll tag it anyway, it's funny how the series really ISN'T Majima being zany and wacky until they made 0 and kind of fit that zaniness into Kiwami 1 and Kiwami 2. 3 he's pretty normal, just wants to fight and loves it, and same goes for 4 and the very little I've heard of him in 5. Just funny that he seems like just a hard boiled Yakuza with some silliness as opposed to 0 - 2 where he is bonkers
