Killed my first Breaker (???) yesterday. Basically an unincredible hulk who has mini-boss health.

My 1st encounter with one of them was absolutely heart-pounding.

Oh TC I don't know if you'll care but if you get the main camps to LV3 trust before the final mission the cutscene prior changes for each one you have. It's a relatively minor thing but the scene is better the more camps you have at LV3.

Deacon expressing thanks for the dude saving his wife on the heli two years ago. Personally, I'm still not convinced she's dead, since she went from an off-screen death at point X to an off-screen death at point Y. (I cry evry tym)



This might be the stupidest line in the game...and I haven't even seen the other contenders yet!

Rikki and I fixed some power transformer in newt territory. One newt actually piggybacked Rikki until she fell off and died, failing the quest. My baseball axe saw a lot of action that day.



This reminds me of that David Cross bit about "Light Up Atlanta," where all the buildings had their lights shut off for blocks and then they...came on. I can still hear him mocking it by saying, "Look at dat one! And that one! I didn't think it was physically possible to do that!" Low-rent fireworks indeed.

No idea what happened here, but I think it was a screaming zombie. They're like humming girls from afar, and when they see you, it's all "LAY OFF ME, I'M STARVING!!" at 900 decibels.

The hell was up with that Carlos fight? I just teleport up the stairs, get PCP blown in my face, then kill the boss with 80% of his HP left with my boot knife? There must be something wonky here. I hope I didn't hallucinate stabbing him or something (some real FC5 vibes from this type of contrivance).

Anywho, just finished talking with O'Brian and learned my wifey had high security clearance and probably didn't die as before. Only this time, she was taken to ANOTHER base that was wiped out! Wow, she has all the luck. Guess the next phase of this game is doing something with the Deschutes militia -- they have rockets, ack-acks, etc.

Yeah, that's a glitch. It's happened to others as well. He's supposed to be a tough fight.

Also, I'm glad I didn't mention yesterday that the hordes wander around. Much more surprising when you discover that on your own lol.

I look forward to being able to take on hordes with firepower. I'm guessing a penetrating machine gun with a huge clip + bottlenecking the swarm would be helpful, huh?

I like: finding survivors and not sending 'em to the work camp. I mean...I eventually will to max out their respect or whatever, but I want those mag upgrades from Iron Mike's isle o' fun. About halfway to LV3 there.

I don't like: invisible barriers. I can accept it in open-world games to a degree, but stopping me from entering this wide-open tunnel to a new region? When there's nothing there? And respawning me down the road? Eat battery acid, you slimes!!

There's a quest line called "Horde Killer" that gives rewards when you've killed a certain percentage of the hordes. The first reward, which unlocks after killing 10% of the hordes, is a Mil Spec SMP9.

I would avoid looking up horde locations though, as people assume you don't care about spoilers if you're looking that up. Had some things spoiled for me by that lol.

Yeah, I don't want to look up things yet. I just found a horde in Carlos' territory, all holed up in some...I dunno, gravel pit or something. Maybe once I can craft attractor bombs, things'll be a little easier. Oh, and that perk that lets you hold more crafting components and objects. I'm gonna be Bomberman in awhile.

Keep an eye out for a gun for sale called the Chicago Chopper. Best gun in the game.

Hopefully it's an AR, 'cause as much as I love Crowdbreaker, I need to go back to AR/shotty/sniper for best effect. Just had one of those machine gunners across a chokepoint high up and didn't have any sniper ammo, so it was kind of a time-waster, haha.

Alright, gonna advance the story. Iron Mike's gonna take me on his super secret goat trail into the southern region and it's gonna lock me out of Lost Lake for awhile. I "promise" not to return, lol. The peeps aren't giving me any loyalty quests right now, so I might as well skidaddle. Hopefully that quest to visit Sarah's headstone in the ass end of the map won't fail and lock me out of trophies.

Do you use fast travel often? I only used it a couple of times. I had lots of fun just driving around.

Since I have to worry about fuel costs, sometimes. Been learning where free jerrycans are to avoid being gouged at camps where I have no dough.

Damn, just crossed Thielsen Pass. I think this is the first black dude in the game and they're making him into a villain! Maybe he has Sarah's ring for a good reason, like he saved her life and that was the only repayment she could give. Yeah, that makes sense...let's go with that. (That said, an army guy wearing a weird, eye-catching edgelord skull ring is odd.)

They keep referring to this Colonel person without any particular pronouns. Gonna assume the Colonel is a chick, and if I make that assumption, maybe it's Sarah! Yeah, let's get in a happy mindset.

Okay, I finally found Sarah. She was the camp egghead or something, and after all my searching, she doesn't want to come with me because of some cause. The colonel's a religious nutter (or at least that's my impression so far), but I guess he hasn't been too bad so far. I mean...when he introduced Deacon, Taylor, and that idiot girl, he did so on the gallows, so I definitely thought there would be blood. Maybe he's more level-headed than I thought.

Eventually got up into the mountains on some goat trail...that was something I could've found myself.



Here's that horde I was talking about earlier. If my molotovs could explode more than an M80, maybe I could do some big-league damage. Should try out those berserker bolts one of these days and see if that helps.

I like how, in the snowy areas, dead bodies immediately get frosted over. Makes me feel good inside for some reason, kinda like how dumping bodies in the water in MGS3 makes me feel good. Must be the stealth angle.

This would-be rape victim (???) stabbed this dude in the jank. Even Deacon was backing up to give her space and he'd fought a breaker, two kinds of wolves, motorcyclist gunmen, and several thousand zombies.



Kouri reminiscing about Wizard Island...or his wife...or something. Deacon pretended his wife was named Beth to cover his tracks, so I'm interested in how that'll come back to factor in.

I'm glad you're enjoying the game. I played after all the patches as well, and it's a shame the launch state wasn't better. I heard the sequel didn't get green lighted, which is unfortunate. But the story is still satisfying without one.

im up to third camp and been using SAF since pretty much the start. its got pretty good range and accuracy. apparently you cant see gun upgrades unless you buy the gun first from a camp. so is there anything that tops it as a primary in lvl 2 mark and lvl 1 mikes camp? initially i liked the shotgun, but find that i had trouble in open world combat with such short range.

I initially used some cheap AR with a big clip, but have been rolling with Crowdbreaker (shotgun) since I bought it in Lost Lake. I said I'd change things over yesterday, but having multiple shotguns for swarms and other annoyances -- like that clothesline trap I just ran into -- are pretty invaluable, on this difficulty, anyway. Once I can get a military spec AR, I'll probably switch to that + Li'l Stubby + sniper. Make sure to get the sniper that has a bigger clip, though, 'cause the initial one only has five max shots or something, so that's not very useful in a shotty/shotty/sniper setup.

Sadly, I haven't gotten any clip upgrades yet, so that hasn't been a big factor yet. Currenly just exploring the southern region, burning bird nests, seeing the sights, etc.

Can't stand these mutated wolves. I don't mind the amount of health they have, but they don't even flinch with a point-blank shotgun blast, so they're constantly getting in free attacks. Oh, and when they attack, they end up behind Deacon, i.e. off screen, so you're always wheeling around and getting back-attacked by their canine cohorts. Hopefully I get a flamethrower or something later on.

I still have hope. The article specifically mentioned that it wasn't green lit when they asked in 2019, because Sony wanted them to help Naughty Dog with 2 of their games instead. It caused some staff to leave Bend Studio, because they didn't like Sony taking away their autonomy. So Bend's higher ups complained to Sony about it and got Sony to remove them from the Naughty Dog projects. Bend is apparently working on a new game now, but no word as to what it is.

You're still on the third camp? Then avoid reading through this topic, because TC is a lot further along than you. Spoilers abound.

As for guns, the MWS is a great assault rifle that you can buy at the Hot Springs camp with level 2 trust. The Crowdbreaker shotgun is amazing, but you need to get level 3 trust with Lost Lake camp for it.

Pretty sure Crowdbreaker is LV2 trust, too. I don't have LV3 trust anywhere yet.

Speaking of, I switched out Crowdbreaker and it's ridiculous capacity (64 shells with that ammo-boosting perk) for the Chicago Chopper, which seems like an obvious throwback to that RE4 infinity spam SMG. It's been surprisingly good so far -- high ammo capacity and cleans up pretty well for crowd control. That penetration+ perk I have might be making it punch above its weight class.

You know, I really lucked out in that regard. I played the game from day 1 and only experienced maybe 2 glitches in my entire playthrough.

i haven't leveled any of the ranged perks yet. i got the crowdbreaker but im still reliant on the SAF as a primary. it sucks at hordes but any human enemy goes down in 1 headshot and the range+accuracy is really good. my playstyle is to steath kill everyone i can, and run away then pick them off from afar with the SAF if a shoot out is triggered.

Yeah, I had that happen in a side mission near the end. It looked like a weird cave, but when I walked into it, the ground "loaded" behind me and trapped me. Reloading my save was the only fix.

I also had an enemy suddenly fly 30 feet into the air, then land and continue shooting at me, as if nothing happened. Those were the only 2 bugs I encountered, and that was about a year after launch.

Haven't ran into too many glitches yet, other than the one time the game crashed, that time (two seconds ago) where my bike fell through a bridge, and that time I crashed into Invisible Mountain in Unloaded Texture World.

Whew, finished the NERO checkpoint questline, plus the nest infestation one. I wish I'd get something better than some gaudy bike skin for the effort, but at least a few are giving me useful stuff, like explosive bolts and stuff. Also, killed a horde at the college football field, just so I could get Weaver's missing Zune or whatever.

Getting kinda sick of LV3 trust being so high, you can't reach it before these "points of no current return" that gate you out of 'em. Looks like after the next story mission, I'm waving sayonara to this idyllic hellscape and going back to Boozer & Co. at Lost Lake. Deacon said the colonel would probably attack it if he knew where it was, so I'm guessing that's exactly what'll happen. (Haven't these poor bastards been through enough?) I look forward to LV3-ing some of the northern places, though.

Hoo boy, I finished the story mission at that old lumber yard. Probably circled it six or seven times, wasted all my ammo and stamina pills (which only refill half a meter? I need that perk...), and finally managed to kill the remaining ones with Li'l Stubby. One of the most hectic battles in the game so far and a pretty fun one, considering I came in half-assed with only about half the amount of molotovs I wanted. Curious how it would've gone with a machine gun and that super-powered penetration perk -- my sniper didn't work that well.

I cleared out about half the lumber mill hours before you have to and the ones I killed stayed dead. Cool stuff.

Oh, you can take on a horde with hit-and-run tactics? Didn't know that. Might be more useful than just running around like a headless chicken, constantly wasting precious resources. Should try to get some more LV3 stuff (Lost Lake just hit that mark) to buy explosive throwables. Someone's gotta have molotovs.

Yeah you can leave pretty much any horde and the ones you kill stay dead iirc.

Welp, beat the game. Went to Wizard Island, blew it up (Boozeman fakeout death!), found Sarah, slit Skizzo's rat bastard throat, then saw the psycho colonel get Socrates'd to death via hemlock. And Weaver survived! Damn, quite a good day. Shame we didn't get to visit NERO or anything, but the final stuff was pretty brisk, so I won't complain too much.

Didn't get the trophies for the marauder camps and exterminations, though, despite (IIRC) doing all of those earlier. Kinda sucks, but I don't feel like playing through again.

Did a job for Weaver to clear a gas station and got the final trophy for marauder camp extirpation. Should try out that Rock Chuck weapon to see if it's any good. Also, the horde right by the station attacked after awhile, but I didn't get any "you beat the horde" notification for doing so. Sucks, man. =(
