Never played it before. Here's what I know:

  • dude has a motorcycle
  • zombies
  • the dialogue can be bad at times
  • I can hide in bushes
Was going to play another RPG, but instead: let's do dis.

This feels like a light blend of Last of Us + Dying Light so far. Derivative, but it may have promise.

I had a blast with it despite its flaws. I never had fun driving motorcycles in games until this one.

Do the cutscenes take like 45 seconds to load for you, too?

Boozer is a SAINT!!!!!!!!!!! He's been dropping death flags all over, though. He keeps calling me and saying things like, "You know, I'm seriously injured, but instead of bedrest, I feel like taking on this entire encampment by myself. Good idea or no?" Dude, just sleep off your third-degree burns! I'll make you some chicken noodle soup later, bro.

There's one really big loading screen when I start and some of the others have some about half that length. Oddly, when I did that flashback portion, all the scenes happened rapid-fire, so it actually had a "this editing feels amateurish" effect.

Surprisingly good game, especially as you get stronger and start fighting hordes.

It's also Starkiller vs zombies so that's cool.

Oh boy, I get to kill child zombies.

They made a nest in a friggin' trailer the size of a small bathroom. Zombies have it rough.

Damn, Scientology really escalated in this era.

Mary is...bae? What a random named character to show up, do nothing, and leave. I wonder if she's going to be Deacon's love interest or something. Instead of chasing her off, he should've sent her to that watchtower to take care of Boozer (I keep wanting to call him Dogs Bower from Blue Stinger).

There's no way someone who was off-screened in a flashback death is going to actually be dead.

Holy christ this game is clunky. The controls and movement are so slow and awkward. Once you get used to it it gets better, but man is it clunky.

Also, I swear to God you spend 75% of this game in the crafting menu.

And thats fine seeing as its an apocalyptic end of the world type game. We should be crafting instead of finding everything we need conveniently placed where we need it honestly.

And yeah, this is a solid 8/10 game that I wish more people would have tried instead of passing on because of zombie fatigue and open world fatigue.

Yeah, Deacon's slow, geriatric movements aren't really befitting a tough biker dude. He can't even jump! At the very least, you can do rolls (R1?) that drain your stamina meter and don't make noise. You can also go to NERO checkpoints and find their magic glue guns that permanently boost health/stamina/focus. Speaking of which, if you're tired of getting mobbed with only a peashooter and 2x4, get the perk that allows focus ASAP. Should help you make slightly more accurate attacks so you're not wasting all your dough on merchant ammo or searching for cop car loot all the time.

It's been alright so far, but a little tough when you have complete garbage for weapons. Kinda reminds me of how annoying the early going can be in Dying Light, although you can do cool parkour in that one, so it's a little more energetic.

I should do Boozer's questline to get his shotgun -- that'd provide the oomph I'm missing. Currently, I'm using some LV2 weapons (AR + sawed-off shotty) I bought from that crazy old lady at the work camp. Now that I think about it, I haven't actually tried 'em out yet...got 'em right before I quit earlier. Was using the first pistol upgrade and a sniper rifle before that, but it left much to be desired. Of course, one of the more frustrating things is, when you have crappy weapons, the enemy is using ARs and shotguns, so even when they die, you're not getting ammo to top yourself off. Feels bad. =(

I also really enjoyed this game. It was really buggy at launch, so it got slammed by reviewers, but I think it's a solid 8/10. Despite it's flaws, it has some excellent world building and characters. And the hordes are great.

Going to do a second playthrough once it releases on PC and the mods start popping up.

I'm kinda starting to remember that feeling. I played it on release, and my memory isnt great to begin with, but I remember being somewhat frustrated with the controls initially, no spoilers or anything, but as you progress, things got much smoother and way more fun.

Was gonna say I'd just use a sidearm for hoomans, but I suppose there'll be tougher armored dudes as the game progresses. Already started on the way to learn that perk that lets you stealth kill "heavy" enemies, which I assume will work the same as in Horizon ZD and other similar games. Not digging melee weapon durability in this game, though. Maybe I should get that perk that lets you fix melee stuff with scrap, just so I'm not constantly hitting the scrap maximum.

Taste? I loathe fighting games and rts games, but I love watching people good at them play them sometimes, I see the appeal, it's just not fun to play for me.

It's mostly because the AR's have better range than pistols, but I find myself doing stealth against humans more than anything. And yeah, I'd get that perk for fixing melee weapons, I hear they get used quite a lot when ammo is scarce. I try to make the spiked baseball bat's as often as I can.

It more or less does, from what I gather, considering the developer and that game's subject matter.

That's what I heard, the bat's are everywhere, and they just take scrap to make, so they're easy to get.

You reneged tried again, and got blasted
Half mastered ass style mad ruff task
When I struck I had on Timbs and a black mask
Remember that shit? I know you don't remember jack
That night yo I was hitting like a SPIKED BAT!!!

Yeah, I've been using a spiked bat since I found the random upgrade blueprint. Also have one that can use a sawblade, but haven't felt the need to change it up yet. Have the jury-rigging perk, so it's gonna get see the world with me for awhile. That Ripper Blade from an old-timey push lawnmower might've been a good one, too.

Anyway, pic dump time. I was doing some random mission and all of a sudden, Gentle Ben took off the kid gloves. Completely blindsided, although I did eventually get the last laugh.

The swarmer AI is a little wonky. I was in complete stealth and there were a bunch of gunmen walking around openly, yet they still somehow made their way to me. I blame Santa for not giving me all those molotovs I asked for.

Feelin' good's alright with me, good enough for Me and Boozeman McGee~~~
Me and my bro, who now has blood poisoning, needed a road trip to the next region.

And it's in this new region where I'll meet my new love to get over Sarah:

Scavenger rules I guess. If they only take the left ear then once it's gone, someone can't come along later and take the right ear and claim credits /rewards for your kill. It makes sense in the proper context of the game.

I managed to avoid a horde on foot without any stamina upgrades. I was in a house in the area where it snows and walked near a window, only to see 85 deadites a few yards away (this is always a WTF moment). When one of 'em saw me with their excellent vision, I sprinted the other way through the house, then ducked through another house, then finally around a third house. Eventually had enough of a lead that they just gave up the chase....camping right in the yard of that runaway girl I was supposed to find. Gee, thanks.

Luckily, I solved that problem by dying; they despawned afterwards. Been keeping more of an eye out now, knowing hordes are still showing up and they just wander around the county like brainless idiots.

Hanging around the mountains reminds me of FC5 a bit, although that gameplay feels a little "floatier" and this one has enough silly realism that it feels more grounded.

FC5 feels really action-oriented, where you can do cool slides, some parkour, run and gun like a badass -- and all, IIRC, right away. DG is a little more grounded and I'm constantly crippled by low stamina, poor reloading times (although I just got the reload-while-sprinting perk!), having to pick my bike up slowly after ther wind knocks it over, going 900 feet without any gas, etc.

Don't remember why I took this one. Out of all the quests, this is the only one that made me think carefully about how to finish it. Turns out, you just shoot the latch on the fire escape ladder -- d'oh. Still a little more cerebral than the constant shotgun-to-face strategy. (And yes, I've rocked a primary shotty + sawed-off!)

Killed my first Breaker (???) yesterday. Basically an unincredible hulk who has mini-boss health. Later, I found another one and stealth shanked it with a LV5 murder perk...feels good, man.

Iron Mike and I watched the cave pilgrimage of the horde and contemplated their ascent like true scholars. Then we suggested blowin' up them there rocks to make a big ol' blockage. Philosopher-kings are we.

Iron Mike's past showed up briefly when he unlocked the door to this massacre site. In a preschool. Some things in this game can be pretty dark.

Remind me of those Golden Axe thieves that you relentlessly bash on for goodies...only these ones go down in one hit.

Here's from when Boozeman was suicidal (???) and Deacon talked him out of it by reminding him that if he dies, they both die. Turns out, the horde just ran under this road fracture and attacked anyway, which begs the question: why blow anything up in the first place? Answer: to get this one cool shot of the horde kept at bay.
