Thank god I can work from bed. But I literally have no motivation to move.

Anyways, get your vaccine, kids.

well, in this case I'll agree with Zeus... as far as I know there are 3 competing vaccines so if one is more likely to cause side effects without a significant tradeoff in effectiveness then you can request one of the alternatives if available

Really has very little to do with which vaccine you get and far more to do with your own health. There have also been several studies indicating vitamin d deficiencies lead to more severe symptoms

Yeah, I had to take a day off work to sleep til 2:30 and I have a fever and muscle soreness. But it was only for like 16 hours. After I woke up at 2:30 I felt fine. I got the Pfizer and had covid less than 90 days ago.

I'll probably get the J&J one so I only have to worry about getting one shot. Most of my family has been vaccinated now and none of them have had any significant side-effects. None of them had the J&J though.

Huh, Mead blocked me?
Oh well.

I still can't even schedule a vaccine. Don't even want it for a month, but I can only schedule for the next 5 days (which never have availability, either).

I figure I'll try for Pfizer, but there's not much info on it vs. the newer strains...

That's not an unreasonable bit of research to do, for the sake of making an informed choice about one's own medical care, but researching that should involve gathering actual statistics on the matter, not asking the occasional person which one they got and how they feel. A tiny handful of anecdotes is pretty much meaningless, and convincing oneself that they've done their research by collecting such a handful can be outright dangerous.

I was talking to my vaccine prep coach the other day we're going to set up medical standby like they do for those crazy stunts and guinness record attempts. You can't really be too prepared with this and its good to know what people on the ground are saying about the different ones.

My mom basically did that, since she's had some very severe allergic reactions to many other vaccines in the past and therefore hasn't been able to get them. Her allergist told her to bring 4 epipens and take 3 immediately and call an ambulance if she starts to feel a reaction coming on. Fortunately, both shots went without issue.

Yeah I dont even understand that. Shouldnt it be just one vaccine for the one virus?

I understand there are different brands of medicines, but they are typically for different things.

I felt like complete ass the day after I got number 2. Fever and crazy chills that kind of came and went, glad I was proactive and took the day off, but was actually hoping I would be fine and play video games all day. Was pretty fatigued the next couple days after that. My wife had very minor side effects, so it definitely varies.

Not remotely. Existing vaccines vary widely in how they deliver the information that triggers an immune response, including viral fragments, dead viruses, attenuated viruses, and the occasional live virus one (though those are pretty uncommon). In turn, you get some variation in the other contents of the vaccine based on what's needed to preserve the viral material and promote the strongest immunity the vaccine can. When it comes to existing vaccines, there's generally only one kind on the market for each disease because there's been enough time to determine which variety works best and focus on that.

In the case of Covid, these vaccines are being produced in response to an emergency. Many different companies have been trying many different strategies to produce a functional vaccine, and a sizable variety of those strategies have ended up working well enough to be worth producing. Even once they go to production, though, an enormous number of doses are needed, but a given production facility isn't necessarily going to be able to produce more than one or two varieties. That means, even if one turns out to be the best option, there's still going to be a need to produce the next best one (which, if it's gone to production, is still going to be perfectly functional) in order to fill the massive demand.

Basically, everybody's made a bunch of different vaccines, but nobody's able to make enough of theirs to get some to everyone in the world, so they're all sharing the market. All of the approved vaccines work and do not pose a significant risk of severe side effects (otherwise they wouldn't have passed the approval process), there's just neither the time nor the production capacity to identify and preferentially distribute an optimal one.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Consider Tylenol, Advil, and Aspirin: Different drugs, all used as low-grade painkillers. They each have their specialties that they excel at compared to the others, and different people will find that one works better than the others, but there's still a market for all three. Think of choosing a Covid vaccine like treating a headache with one of those: If you're allergic to one, take a different one. If one works particularly well for you (or your demographic, in the case of the vaccines), you're going to be best off taking that one, but if you don't have any of it handy, it'll be better to take one of the others than to go without.

My understanding is that there weren't enough pregnant women in the original studies to necessarily approve it for them, but with the way the mRNA vaccines work it theoretically shouldn't do any harm. I don't fully understand the science behind it, but Amanda is in health care and she was comfortable with it as well as everyone she spoke to regarding it including several other pregnant health care workers.

In the end it felt like much more of a risk to get Covid while pregnant. Also, from what we've heard women who have done this are giving birth to babies with antibodies and should theoretically be safe from infection.
