if wearing a mask limits your breathing then you definitely have bigger things to be worried about than wearing a mask. And its perfectly fine to take it off to eat. they're just asking you wear it every other time. This is like saying "I can't piss without taking my pants off, that's so inconvenient"...we're adults, not toddlers. Its time to act like one.

Human communication relies a lot on facial cues and recognition. Obviously during a pandemic or when you are sick, wearing a mask is a good practice. But generally it isn't like clothing and the children growing up during the pandemic in particular are missing out on crucial development of social skills/empathy with the combination of everyone being masked and distanced, it's a serious concern that could have long term impact. Not to say it would be better for everyone not to wear masks, just that it does have an effect beyond something like clothes.

There are masks with clear plastic shielding instead of cloth over the lips. The lack of proliferation of those masks is a shame, because it'd put to bed the "think of the deaf/the children/the L2 English speakers" arguments.

Bad take. Masks dont inhibit breathing or speaking, and its generally acceptable to temporarily remove your mask to eat. Sucks for deaf people but we are in a pandemic and lives are at stake. Sign language should be taught to everyone in school
