Why? Im talking tobacco here. We were raised knowing how bad it is and it was never cool to smoke by the time we were teens in the 00s.

It amazes me even more when you see 18 year olds today smoking.

Heres my 23 year old perspective:

I started smoking cigs at 18 because it was the ultimate icebreaker for a college kid. There was a stretch of sidewalk out in front of the dorms that was a huge meet up spot for all the dorm kids, and everyone smoked. Fast forward a year or two and your classes start getting harder, youre getting busier and more stressed out, next thing you know youve got a vice. Been a little over a year since I last smoked a cig, happy to be rid of them now

I started smoking around 16? Basically it started with not having weed and pairing up smoking with drinking

In fact, I used to get piss drunk all the time just to enjoy my cigarette experience even better.. there were some days it just hit so good right after something

its like a big huge sigh after something thats so tense

eventually though that just starts to be all you do and eventually you start buying packs and packs and more packs and packs then cartons

I started vaping to curb that - my problem was definitely huge as I tend to have a very addictive personality (though hell was breaking loose all over tbh) and now I dont ever feel an urge for a cig

Im basically down to 0 nicotine now and really just do it because my body does recognize oh you definitely want a hit of something just to feel that in the back of your throat and it does gnaw at my brain and skull sometimes

but at least I can breathe better and taste everything.. Im not getting this weird chest compression I was used to getting for smoking that early in the morning, I was really just sending myself down the drain top of no sleep

everything got better after I left them behind

A lot of things are bad true, I heard a saying "choose whatever poison you want". However the problem with cigarette smoking is they force their poison to the people around them and that is legal.

If it is a narrow path and someone is smoking, then you have to breathe whether you want to or not. The smoker gets to forces others to breathe their smoke but that is legal.

Basically it is legal for a smoker to force others to breathe their smoke even though it is harmful. If a smoker wants to force their child or baby to breathe their cigarette smoke, the law can't stop them which is wrong.

Luckily for drinking there are many laws that protect others from those who are drunk. If a drunk person gets violent they get arrested, if a drunk person is so out of it that they don't know what they are doing they get taken away. If a drunk person think it is wise to drive, they get arrested.

Basically there are many laws to getting drunk. Being drunk doesn't give them special privilege to harm others.

I dont know about the States, but a huge reason a lot of young people in Canada smoke seems to be because they find smoking funny.

Cigarette humor seems to be a big thing up here, particularly in smaller cities. Even I got sucked into it when I went to college in rural Ontario.

About to go have a dart with the Boiz! Back on that poison! Lolololol is a typical conversation in rural Canada. I blame Trailer Park Boys.

I work with a girl who just recently turned 19 and she smokes cigarettes and weed all the time. She also said she has been smoking since she was 6 years old. She was literally born after 9/11, shits crazy.

Kids cartoon used to have smoking like Donald Duck, I don't know why they thought that was a good idea.

I was born in 81 and I'm 40.
So yes people born in the 80s can be in their 40s

I smoked in high school to be cool.

Luckily i didnt become addicted and quit easily.

Even letterkenny promotes smoking. And tbh its a reflection of reality.

There's definitely something about small town Canada where smoking rates are a lot higher than other places.
