Ever since that came out everyones always going on about how the 2 main characters fighting are gonna put aside their differences because they have their mothers have the same names and they team up at the end to fight something etc

Freddy vs. Jason didn't do that
Alien vs. Predator didn't do that

I can't recall how many times people joked
Kong: Save Martha/Mothra!
Godzilla: Where did you hear that name?

It wasn't funny the first time and it's not funny now

The difference is that in your two examples, villains are fighting each other.

In the original KvG, Godzilla was still heel. But in modern GvK weve got two good guys fighting, so of course theyre going to pivot to a bigger threat.

No, we should totally go back to writing the ending in such a way that fans can argue who won.

if the inevitable Bugs Bunny VS Mickey Mouse crossover ever happens and ends up with them being friends instead of resulting in a bloodbath, im gonna be severely disappointed.

This started decades before BvS with the same exact shit in the TAS "World's Finest". Hyped up a huge fight, but squashed that super fast because Joker and Luthor were the main bads.

It's like BvS was the biggest most recent example so people point to that but it's been a thing since forever. Two heroes fighting and eventually teaming up to fight the real big bad. Hell they even did that in the comics with Cap vs Batman

Now with Freddy vs Jason it was in inverse cause they're both villains who were a team in the beginning then fought each other at the end
