Video games are like that but broadcast is different. Channels sometimes do some stupid shit. Like with Firefly, FOX broadcasted in some random order instead of the director's intended order and it sucked cuz of that.

Chronological order. Broadcast order made sense for the first airing back before your had the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya to end the series on, but not we have disappearance to end it on. even the 2009 airing of the series used chronological order, as it's so much better. I'd skip most of the Endless Eight episodes though, personally I'd only watch the first and last of that arc, but I can understand why people watch them all.

Some episodes got finished before others and instead of waiting the network just aired what they had. It was never intended to have a convoluted broadcast.

I remember someone in an interview said FOX wanted the "exciting action packed" episodes first to draw in viewers instead of the actual 1st episode that slowly introduces the world and characters so that it makes sense

For Haruhi the first season had a single story line with an intro, build up and pretty big climactic ending. Which took up half the season. In chronological order this would be the first 6 episodes, so half the season. The rest of the season is a bunch of smaller stories, usually single episodes. It'd be pretty weird watching it in chronological order given the change from the first half of the season to the second. So they aired the second half in-between (and before) the first half.

yep this was my first impression when it was still airing on tv, avoided it over a decade later, had nothing to watch and tried it and show was actually good

There's literally no reason to watch the broadcast order now that the complete chronological order is out. Don't skip Endless Eight either.

I really don't buy this. if you watch it in broadcast order it puts the climax at the end, if you watch it in chronological it puts the climax weirdly in the middle and then you get a bunch of slice of life

I get what you mean, but there's also so many continuity issues in broadcast order, like the baseball episode happens before Nagato's powers are explained, and who the esper guy is, and what Haruhi dimension bubbles are, and why Haruhi doesn't want Mikuru in a ponytail, or why Mikuru is in a nurse outfit >_> All of these are addressed in the chronological order. I think I would be confused as fuck if I watched it in broadcast order.
