aka GODDAMN MONGOLIANS the game

Managed to get it for around $25 at GameStop but honestly I probably wouldnt have minded getting it for $60 either

It probably helps that Im playing it on the PS5 but this really feels refreshing even in a genre thats now as widely saturated as open-world

I like how the characters actually have some thought put into them too. Jin starts off as the typical bushido samurai but eventually realizes that he has to get sneaky if he wants to actually beat the Mongols.

Combat is nothing new but fuck me if it isnt satisfying, especially with how many ways to make the HUD more helpful or even not there at all

And people thought this was worse than TLOU2? Gimme a fucking break

It really just sours a lot of the discourse around it, which is a shame because it's genuinely a great game, but so much of the praise towards it just feels so disingenuous because of this reason.

I agree, it's a pretty solid game and I was really surprised when they added in a multiplayer mode free of charge.

the best part of the game (just attacking Mongolians) is always pushed back for story nonsense

I got tlou2 on sale but thinking of getting sushi too

even though I preferred TLoU2, GoT deserves a lot more than just being something to lobby against it like there's any reason to do so outside of misplaced agenda.

It's a funny thing in general. Why are these games even brought up in some weird rivalry? They're both PlayStation exclusives but they're not even in the same genre. It would be like if Breath of the Wild was always brought up in Super Mario Odyssey topics.

It was great, and I'm glad they updated it for PS5. A shame they didn't do that for TLoU2, I haven't played it yet because I'm waiting for it but I'm sure it'll be a $60 re-release instead of a free upgrade...

I mean, they're both PS4 exclusives released within a month of each other (and the good game being pushed back to not complete with the award bait game), made by reputable studios and with a lot of hype behind them. This isn't exactly apples to oranges lol

TLOU2 went from "delayed indefinitely" to "Oh it comes out next month actually" after the leaks whereas GOT went from "Oh it's always planned to be in June" to "uhhhh finishing touches and polish y'all see you in July!"

I never played this on PS4 but this game felt like it was made for 60FPS, they probably had it running at 60 FPS on the PS5 before launch at Sony's request

nah, I was reading the OP, and I saw you praising GoT, which is cool, but then you used that to attack TLoU2, which is unnecessary, tbh.

I'm not saying your hate of TLoU2 is unnecessary, but using a topic about GoT as a platform to do bash it is.

Just random arbitrary 8s & 9s and not going any higher despite no glaring flaws being brought up or even mentioned in some of these reviews

At least the fans won out for the Player's Choice award, that'll look good on a re-release

you can have a good game, and have little to no issue with it, but still feel like it's worth a 7, 8, 9, or whatever; something like a 10, for an individual, might be reserved for something they view as a masterpiece, even if it potentially has flaws. that's why all of that stuff is relative and shouldn't be taken to heart. what's most important is how they justify their scores...if you care about professional reviews, I mean.

anyway, GoT is definitely a good game, but as you go on, there are some notable flaws, IMO, most of which are related to its open-world structure.

the stealth is also bad, due to the enemy's AI.

I played about 10-15 hours before I stopped, but I'll give it another try (from the beginning) since it has been so long.

Those are fair points

I blame reviewers mostly for handing out 10/10s like they were candy lately. I prefer 5/5 ratings because you can put GoT and TLOU2 both in the 5/5 scale and it doesn't necessarily mean it's one of the greatest games ever made like 10/10s like to say nowadays, just that they're both in the running for them despite their flaws
