Is that pretty much any idiot can fight crime and be a hero if they know they can fly and have super-strength and are 99.999% invincible.

It's like playing a video game where you use cheat codes to give yourself infinite health and ammo.
Sure you'll win, but don't expect any sense of accomplishment.

And isn't Kryptonite supposed to be like insanely rare? And yet any given Superman villain has tons of the stuff just lying around. Because it's pretty much Supes only weakness and you gotta have something to create tension...

The fact that superman exists in his world and crime still exists in said world is a testament of just how lazy superman is. He should be working 24/7 to stop crime, yet he is busy working a pointless job and chasing white women around.

And what if Superman really were evil? Nobody would feasibly be able to stop him.

Not really. Pre Crisis and Prime Superman maybe, but quite a few can go toe to toe with Justice League and TAS Superman.

What makes this an interesting thought is that, frankly, most idiots wouldn't use their powers to become heroes. And the few that would, would likely be very irresponsible. For a good example of this, go check out some of the original Booster Gold comics. There's an early issue that's essentially just that. Booster, the random idiot, got his hands on superpowered tech become a hero. And he nearly fucks things up, though a guest appearance from Superman helps him set things straight and teach him his lesson.

There's also the fact that Superman's moral beliefs are often in conflict with the more obvious solutions. On a practical level, Superman's powerful enough that he can, if he wanted to, impose his morality onto any situation and still have a good ending. In the hands of better writers, though, his rejection of abusing his powers often leads to other story-related complications and inter-personal drama.

This is moreso a weakness of certain adaptations than an underlying problem with the character. Superman is often up against villains and conflicts that are either able to match him, or that can't be simply punched into submission (or at least, not punched into submission until a more pressing matter is resolved)

Seriously, go check out the Rebirth-era Superman comics. The first arcs are pretty middling but they build up really well.

Though, personally, I'm a huge fan of low-powered, Golden Age social justice Superman. We seriously need more of that interpretation. Go check out "Superman Smashes the Klan", it's great!

Superman's intelligence is one of his most underrated assets though. He's not as smart as Lex Luthor or Batman, but he's still the son of one of Krypton's most brilliant scientists. True, taking out street thugs isn't that much of an effort, but if he didn't meet some baseline level of intelligence, he would not be anywhere near as effective as he is when it comes to strategizing against cosmic threats or using his powers most efficiently in desperate situations. Independent of his powers, he can do something that the vast majority of Americans cannot do: read and write at a college level.

Kryptonite IS rare. The reason that it seems to show up so often is that you've seen many different continuities involving the character, each of which features Kryptonite in some form, and have built up some familiarity with the idea of him coming into contact with it.

The above applies here. Every now and then a villain gets ahold of some, but typically it's just Lex Luthor and Metallo that have Kryptonite at their disposal, the former because he has the resources to locate and acquire it, the latter because he's literally powered by a chunk of it. And that leads us to...

Most of his comics don't feature Kryptonite at all. His villains typically are so powerful that they can actually hurt him (Luther with his suit, Darkseid, Doomsday, Bizarro) or they have some sort of power that he's vulnerable to (Parasite, Livewire, Mr. Mxyzptlk). Luther, along with Toyman and the Trickster among others, often comes up with inventions of some sort that can hurt him or disable his powers, effectively putting them into the latter category.

And let's not even forget that he's just as vulnerable to magic as a human. Hell, he nearly died in one issue when an ultra fast vampire with claws slashed him across the chest, but was saved by Batman at the last minute.

That's the wrong conclusion.

With power like that, any idiot could conquer the fucking world.

In like a week, tops.

Supes doesn't do that, he instead wants to help.

It is true that much of what Superman does is less heroic than the act of a good samaritan. Also why few comics or movies focus on him stopping a bank robbery anymore or something similarly low skill, instead either giving him someone in his weight class, smart enough to use innocents against him, or the big "how much do I do and how much do I leave for humanity to rise to" questions.

Why would you want to conquer the world? Everyone would hate you and it would take way too much effort to try and maintain control. Its weird to me that everyone assumes that if you had his powers youd want to take over the world

Its projection. Happens a lot when people try to argue what others would do morally speaking.

You see it when these same sorts look at something like UBI and say that people will just stop working. They have no concept of (or refuse to accept it) the idea that how they would behave isnt how others would behave.

That being said, I personally would be very BVS Batfleck if I had Supes powers. Not evil, but theres a lot of shit in this world I wouldnt tolerate with extreme prejudice.

It's an example. He could do whatever the fuck he wanted, up to and including conquering the world, without reprisal.

He doesn't, he doesn't even use the powers for personal gain.

To be fair, this is less to do with Peters character (hes a surprisingly shitty person a lot of the time haha) and more to do with the running theme that his life sucks and everything goes wrong for him.

He finally did get to become a mega-successful captain of science industry and then it all came crashing down when some journalist proved he plagiarized Dr. Octopus (which of course, was because he was literally Dr Octopus for a while, but still, damn that Parker luck ;P)

Yes and no.

Like, Parker Luck is definitely his second biggest trope, but Great Power, Great Responsibility is number one.

Ideally, anyway. I'm not going to sit here and pretend he's perfect.
