I usually just cut off the tails and throw them in because I buy them without the shell, but I grabbed the wrong ones.

I cant figure out if the shells are coming off or if its ice and its driving me nuts

I grabbed the wrong box of fishsticks the other night and bought tish patties instead.

I've made the same mistake.

Can make a pretty good stock from those shells for making things like rice or ramen with almost no effort

This is actually ideal.

Run the shrimps under cold water if there's any ice left, to defrost it quickly.

Save the shells. You'll make the most amazing shellfish stock with these. Roast them in the oven for 20 minutes and then just chuck them in a pan with onions, water and whatever other veggies you have left. Use this stock to make risotto, paella, fish stew, whatever.

It's just for my crock pot. I always make it and it tastes amazing, but I started to have a bit of social anxiety attack, and wanted to quickly get out of the store and wasn't paying attention when I grabbed the bag

So the thing about shrimp (prawns even, I'm british) is that most of the flavour is in the heads. That's why it's good to save those heads. You'll be blown away by how strong the stock flavour will be if you use prawn heads.
