so like, you see its 90% efficient, 66% efficient

but if you look at the studies:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2021/03/29/vaccine-effective-essential-workers-study/

Among 2,479 fully vaccinated people, just three had confirmed infections. Among 477 people who received one dose, eight infections were reported.
By comparison, among 994 people who were not vaccinated, 161 developed infections.

so for two doses, 0.12% of people got corona virus and for 1 dose ~1.7% of people got it.
ie 2 doses protected 99.88% of people and 1 dose protected 98.3% of people.
that sounds a lot better than 80% and then 95%.

im sure theres some statistics LAW somewhere in the manual to all of science saying to use it, but for journalists and media folk, wouldn't this be a better message?

If 100 people are vaccinated, perhaps 90% of them become immune.

That doesn't mean the other 10% will catch the virus. They might not be immune, but they might protect themself via social distancing / etc, they might get lucky and never come in contact with it, etc. In turn, this means some of the 90% might also be in this situation - even if they are immune, they never encountered the virus anyway so it wouldn't have mattered.

They need to adjust for these factors when running the trials; which is why they compare how many vaccinated vs unvaccinated people caught the virus, not just "how many vaccinated people still got sick"?
