Do you agree with this statement?
For example, I like the idea of a DP remake in the spirit of the original games, but I don't like the Arceus game because it looks hollow and uninspired.

I really dislike the artstyle though.
It worked in the original when it was in pixel graphics but not in full 3D.

Then again I've decided ever since Ultra Moon that I'm never buying a Pokemon game ever again, so it's whatever for me.

I've said for years that I'd like to see a classic Pokemon game with 2D GBA type character sprites but with realistic backgrounds and lighting.

Octopath Traveller came along years later and proved that my idea had aesthetic potential.

Game Freak can't manage to make a decent looking 3D game for some reason. The Arceus game looks promising but I'm not expecting much. The DP remake looks like a fan game.

I don't think so. When I think of fan games, I think of stuff like Polished Crystal which don't really try and improve upon the existing game graphically. I am pretty surprised we do not see "Pokemon game but it has extra content" style games, akin to third versions. Use the same game engine, but add features. What ends up happening is that they do weird things like add Pokemon that don't belong and "increase difficulty", which seems really short sighted.

Almost as if fans are equally as bad at making games as GameFreak.

Ill pretty certainly be getting both, never really properly played diamond or pearl so looking forward to actually doing that, though i dislike the style somewhat, Arceus is a totally different type of game by the looks of it which interests me more.

I may just be thinking too rigidly about it, but I'm not sure Octopath's aesthetic would really fit Pokemon. Obviously the colour palette would be more saturated, and the depth of field effects probably wouldn't be quite as pronounced, but I'm still having trouble imagining it looking good for Pokemon.
