Tennessee has become the third state to pass a bill keeping school sports separated based on sex at birth.

The state followed in the footsteps of Mississippi and Arkansas in enacting legislation that supporters argue will protect women's sports. Republican Gov. Bill Lee previously claimed that transgender athlete participation would "destroy womens sports." He signed the bill on Friday.

"I signed the bill to preserve women's athletics and ensure fair competition," Lee tweeted.

"This legislation responds to damaging federal policies that stand in opposition to the years of progress made under Title IX and I commend members of the General Assembly for their bipartisan work."

Critics of the bill claim it will lead to legal challenges that will cause needless economic loss, the Tennessean reported. Others argue the controversial bill will deter tourists.

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves signed a similar bill on March 11 mandating the separation of sports based on sex at birth.

Mississippi Republicans have said the law, which will affect state schools and universities, is a necessary response to President Bidens day-one executive order calling on schools across the country to allow students to participate in sports under their chosen gender identity.

"This important piece of legislation will ensure that young girls in Mississippi have a fair, level playing field in public school sports," Reeves said after signing the bill. "It sends a clear message to my daughters and all of Mississippis daughters that their rights are worth fighting for."

Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, also a Republican, on Thursday signed the Fairness in Womens Sports Act, after the measure passed through the State House with overwhelming support earlier this week.

"This law simply says that female athletes should not have to compete in a sport against a student of the male sex when the sport is designed for womens competition," Hutchinson said in a statement. "This will help promote and maintain fairness in womens sporting events."

Approximately 25 bills have popped up across the nation as conservatives fight to protect opportunities for biological females in sports.

Champions for LGBTQ rights have condemned each bill, saying that they are not about "protecting fairness" but "erasing and excluding trans people from all aspects of public life."

"This discriminatory policy is illegal," said Sam Brinton of The Trevor Project, a national group providing transgender youths with crisis prevention services. "The Trevor Project is here 24/7 to support trans youth in Tennessee and across the country who feel hurt and invalidated by these purely political attacks."

Female MMA fighters have already had their skulls broken fighting against trans fighters.

She never fought again.

Science and reality don't care about liberal social agendas and proclamations that aren't based in truth. Women are going to get hurt if this keeps up and also no natural women will be able to compete physically against their trans-opponents of the same age.

That said, maybe we do need to just allow it and let things play out for people if they feel they need to experience the madness.

Yeah I partially agree, I think people are trying very hard to not be "offensive" and it ends up being flat out anti-reality.

Women are allowed to compete in the NFL, MLB, NBA for example. It's just that none can. That's not sexism, that's not what I would create if I got to design reality/biology. But it is a fact.

The idea of combat sports between men and women is concerning. Even in the same weight class no pro-female fighter can take a pro-male one. I think even if the woman was 20 pounds heavier than the man, no pro-female fighter would beat a pro-male one.

I think people need to realize that your gender can be whatever you want but your biological body is still a physical fact.

If you were born male you are born averagely larger, stronger, faster, tougher, bigger bone density/muscle mass, wtith better reflexes, with less pain receptors and different chemicals than if you are born female.

Transitioning with hormone therapy can effect this, but it can't remove it entirely. It's always going to be part of biology.

If you're a female trapped in a man's body, you deserve the same rights as everyone else in law/businsess/hospital visitation etc. But you have to recongize physically that's still a male body. Even if it's a female soul, gender, mind etc.

And in my experience it's not transgenders who are the ones who don't understand this byinlarge. Most of them acklowedge it. It's people looking to be at the forefront of the next civil rights issue

I think a better way of looking at it is calling them "Biological womens sports" rather than "Womesn sports."

I've never understood this defense and no one has ever explained it

I'm not conservative and I like some womens sports, MMA in particular the womens can be as exciting as the mens

But sure let's pick a sport I don't care about, Say Women's football.

I don't care, I'm not going to watch the games or follow the league.

Why does that mean it's okay to let biological males play in it? Simply because I'm not a fan? What kind of logic is that.

I'd they introduced rules that said the games were now 15 against 6, I'd be opposed to that too because it would destroy the sport for its fans and participants

Either counter by saying they should be allowed to compete or don't, going "Oh but they don't really support womens hockey!" is just a weird sidestep

Even if it's true, its not relevant

There are a lot of people who are pro trans athletes in sports but opposed to "a man turning around one day and just deciding he is a girl!' then dominating said sport

In pro sports the pro transgender argument tends to say it should follow years of transitional therapy

And this legislation is about schools rather than adult pro leagues

So while I agree with the overall point, I dont think it's fair to deliberately misrepresent the argument

A FtM person has way more advantage over a cis woman than a MtF person does. But no one cares about that.

There was a FtM person that won the Texas State wrestling championship. He wanted to compete against boys. The girls wanted him to compete against boys. The boys wanted him to compete against boys. But because of the idiotic law, he had to compete against girls.
