imoz America is the greatest country in the world... if you have money.

I couldn't actually imagine living there on a budget and struggling day-to-day. I've thought about maybe living in the less populous states like Wyoming, or the places people call boring or "fly-over" where a large 3-bedroom place costs barely $1000 a month. After all with amazon shipping I don't really need the place I live to have anything else.

Yep the salaries are pathetic.

But, my university tuition was free, as is my health care, as are my prescriptions, and so on. Whether it evenly balances out or not I dont know, but its nice to not have university debt hanging over my head.

However, if I was born in the UK I'd be destitute due to medical bills so fuck that noise.

Average salary in the UK for 2020 was 38,600 according to ONS (Office for National Statistics). This equates to $53,233.

Meanwhile the average US salary for last year is $49,764.

Fail topic.

38600 is the average for full time workers only. About 29-30K is average for all workers, and you're right the median is about mid 20s. The skew from high earners makes the averages misleading though, so while 38600 is correct, less a quarter of workers actually make that or above.

Not including things such as our medicare, healthcare is a non issue if your employment has health insurance, which if it's a decent job likely does. And there are numerous locations in the west and south you avoid winter entirely.

That's just flat out wrong. Even if hospitals themselves won't report you to a credit agency, the debt collectors they eventually sell your debt to will. My aunt's credit score was absolutely fucked for a while due to her cancer and having shit insurance who denied most of her claims

I've been fine not paying over $1k in medical bills. They don't accrue interest, I report them on my credit report as wrong, and just wait to see where the chips fall. Still have over 700 credit score. And it goes away after 7 years even if they do ding your credit, so if you are in a position where you won't need to buy a house, then you're golden.

I know America is an easy target on this subject but seriously what the FUCK is going on over there. If that happened in the UK there'd be a literal revolt

I'm grateful because my dad has two types of arthritis and he's not rich at all (state pension), but he gets prescription meds delivered to his door free of charge.

no. they cannot force you to pay, so why bother? cannot garnish wages for medical debt. cannot charge interest. ofttimes, if you hold off so long, they will let you pay it in full with half or even quarter payment. never pay the full bill. or pay, whichever you're more comfortable with.

NHS healthcare vs Privatised/insurance based medical care

Extremely low gun crime vs highest number of gun crime per head.

Flawed justice/criminal system that does try to give fair trial and rehabilitation compared to whatever the fuck has gone wrong with the US justice and penal system.

Fair and standard Maternity and/or Sick leave for employees vs a varying bare minimum that people are ostracised for taking even if needed.

A shrinking gender inequality gap in all facets vs the US where in it is still very prominent and shrinking only for the top 5%.

A still awful racial divide and discrimination problem compared to the the US where its just a punchline at the moment.

Theresa May and Boris Johnson vs President Trump.

And most importantly of all
Cadbury vs whatever that stuff you call chocolate is.

So yeah, we me maybe less wealthy but I don't think we are anywhere near as morally and socially bankrupt.
