The battle system is just so satisfying, every character has some sort of unique gimmick (for example, a ghost girl who gains immunity to physical attacks and can self-resurrect after a few turns, a nerdy guy who specializes in setting time attacks and disrupting enemy time attacks, and can even manipulate the party's turn order), the soundtrack is pretty high tier, the characters are all fun, quirky and well voice acted, and the story was a more low-stakes, slice of life affair, which I found a very welcome change of pace from the typical JRPG plot. Getting to know the characters better during free time even ties directly into the plot, as (major story spoilers) the main character ends up dying in the final dungeon if you don't finish any of the party members' optional quests, and you get a different post-credits ending based on which character's quests you did finish. You have to move around in rhe city to have a view of your robot but also be mindful not to get hurt It's even possible to stand on your robot during battle but that is really hard and I never pulled it off.
