I've noticed this on my trip. I'm 29. I got sir before but it was always from waitstaff and as a term of endearment teachers and friends, now it's coming from younger strangers and it has me feeling some type of way.

Anybody acting out of pocket in their thirties and beyond obviously haven't learned the lessons your twenties are supposed to teach you.

I get it from babysitting a lot. It's weird. 15 years ago I was a drug addled punk kid wearing all black and jamming out in rock bands

Now I'm fucking "sir"

As someone going through the second half of their twenties, I've treasured my 30s friends, because the 25-30 crowd is insufferable for the most part. I've always considered myself to be an extrovert, but these years have made me seriously reconsider that lifestyle. The majority of people in this age demo tend to fall into three categories:

1) The people who, to paraphrase Queen, "Want it all - and want it NOW". They want their marriage, kids and picket fences, damn it, and they want them yesterday. While ambition is fine and good, people in this group tend to lose their ability to just relax and enjoy the little things, and are no fun to hang around as a result.

2) The people who decided to go off the deep end as soon as they had a taste of adulthood. If you try to hang with them, they'll want to hop across every bar in a 5-mile radius and indulge in their drug(s) of choice all along the way. Pass.

3) The people who decided to become shut-ins after their teen/college years and consider Netflix their main hobby. Looking at the first two groups, can ya blame them?

From personal experience, it seems like 32-33 is the sweet spot where people start acting fuckin' normal again. So I can't agree with the thread premise here, but hey - everyone's experiences are different.

As a man in his early 40s, the worst age for men is the late 40s.
Some try to recapture their youth, which is pathetic. Grown men in clubs, chatting up 20nuear olds, grow up FFS.
Others suddenly discover new get fit hobbies because after 50 years of not giving a shit about their bodies, now they're scared of dropping dead... No one wants to see a 50 year old man's ass in cycling shorts Terry, drive to work and stop moaning about your fucking knees..

As someone in their early 30s...

For the younger folks here, I really hope you figure out your life sooner than later. Don't waste it. Time really flies. You're getting older, and so are your parents. It's okay to make mistakes and change career paths, but the sooner the better. Enjoy your early 20s, but at least start getting really serious in your mid 20s. 30s will creep up on you in no time and you're going to have a lot more expectations and responsibilities to fill, not to mention your biological clock is ticking--if you want to have kids. By the time you are in your 30-40s, your parents are already 60-70 range, and that's basically the average life expectancy.. Spend time with your parents as much as you can. You never know what can happen the next day.

Life doesn't always work out the way you want to. I was hoping to get into a serious relationship and settle by 30 with kids and a house before my mid 30s, but that hasn't happened.(relationship part).

And take of your body. You can't expect to eat the same foods every decade and think you're gonna be in the same shape. Your metabolism will start to slow a little bit, and your body just can' stomach certain things. Absolutely eat healthy and exercise 3-6x a week. It will be your savior in the long run and reduce complications when you get to old age. Go to your doctor for annual physicals and dentist check ups too. If you feel like something is off, go to the doctor. God forbid you get something like cancer. But the earlier you detect it, the better

I dunno. It should but ive seen people fall apart even having what life should be. Previously married, family visits, lost industry are normal to hear these days.

My take is a formula for burnout. I think folks shouldnt settle in marriage, family, career, etc. You have to give some effort & time for it all. Keep & sustain marriage as a couple. Raise family. Productive & rewarding career. Routine becomes a lifestyle and not everybody around can accept that. If its not enough, i think you lose them. Too selfish, not enough time, and whatever happens. We cant be everywhere at once and priorities are being juggled constantly.

Two things off the top of my head are: Youre at work more than with your family & Youre with your family more than at work. Keeping it balanced can be a struggle

You make it work.

I have mixed opinions about my 30's so far... On the one hand I've never been more financially well off and am doing well in my career. That means earned independence, but also more responsibilities. I also have far less of a social life than I did in my 20's and my body's getting way out of shape. Overall my 30's are a net positive, so I don't think I have any room to complain, but I think I was happier in my teens and 20's. Close family members started getting sick and dying recently too...
