is it unreasonable to say i hate the snow in ny and want to move simply for that reason? i like a little sunshine and hate the fact that the skies are gray most of the time (although today is an odd exception, its nice out)

thought about florida but the hurricanes keep me away. california seems way too expensive (i make 30K a year and i have a 1 bedroom apartment with no roommates).

I'm moving for the same reasons from Minnesota to Florida hopefully this coming fall, I just feel like you waste so much of your life being cooped up inside during winters. if you live in a big city like Chicago or New York City I'm sure it'd be fine but everywhere else is a huge downer a minimum of 4 months out of the year.

I live in the ATL. You get a little snow for maybe a week each year. The suburbs are pretty peaceful, and there is a good amount of diversity so you can experience different cultures. That said, I'd recommend Texas over the states in the South. There's no state income tax. There's a lot of events, and the economy is strong with many bustling industries.

Most places in the south are awesome all year. Don't listen to the salty few that think all the south is this horrible place with racists and bigots at every turn. 99% of folks are just trying to make it through the day, and aren't worried about you anyways.

I'm in Georgia and will echo this, I'm in the middle Georgia area (Macon, Warner Robins) that is relatively developed/liberal without the higher COL of Atlanta. Things are still a bit limited though (only two movie theaters for example) but I haven't encountered a lot of racism recently despite being a minority. The summers are brutal though.. you can be outside in the shade and still feel waves of heat hitting you (mostly in July through September).

I'm considering Texas, I forgot to add that one to the list. Houston is one of the first I'm considering because of the cost of living being decent. But the hurricanes and floods are a concern. also, this is a silly complaint but I like palm trees and I hear there aren't any over there lol. But that's the last on my priority list.

so im kind of a dumbass, but i dont know. I googled new york's average humidity and it's 70.7%, so apparently 700% to 800% seems overkill as hell, is it not? that means it feels like you can't breathe, right? doesnt seem like a great place to live, if so.

Well I was exaggerating but sometimes I feel like I can't breathe in humidity where I live and I'm in new england. Houston is notorious for terrible humidity.

Edit: sorry I just assumed everyone knew humidity doesn't go over 100% >_>

I left Florida
It's not bad at all and I'd still consider living there, but the heat and humidity are frustrating

Edit: hurricanes are nothing to be worried about. I spent most of the last 15+ years there and only evacuated a couple times
if you dont mind me asking

  • where in florida? seems like it happens on where you were. dont places on the coast get hit hard? i'm talking card being thrown around lime matchbox toys, roofs being blown off, palm trees being blown at a 90 degree angle, etc?
  • when did you know to evacuate or not to evacuate? i have a cat so that makes it a little tougher for me to bounce cuz he hates cars lol. i would still take him but it makes it a little tougher.

Honestly, this city is definitely underrated. Although it seems to be growing quickly, even in the short time I've been here. A lot of people from the north moving down here, probably too many people.

I used to live in Louisiana.

Can't say I want to go back. Cost of living is pretty low and the food is great, but the state is poor and more dependent on the oil industry than I'd like.

If you just don't want to see snow, you almost never will. Winters are rainy, but summers are hot and humid as fuck. Constant swamp ass.

Actually, it's an easy question to answer. The southeast is a lot more affordable in several ways, most of all in the cost of housing. Homes are half the cost of what they are in the Northeast, and usually much newer and higher quality. There are other advantages too, like better roads (both physically and in layout), less traffic, and of course it's safer with less ice and snow, if any.
