Rice is just empty carbs at the end of the day loaded with calories. I can literally eat french toast, potatoes, popcorn, and protein pasta and get more nutritional value and feel fuller than a bowl of bland rice. Do you want french fries? Portion it out and eat more veggies.....DONE! Quit overhyping rice as this health food because it tastes like ****, it's empty calories, and making you fat.

For me, the allure of rice is it's absorbent so it combines well with shit like curry, gumbo, pot roast, and similar dishes that are heavy on broth/gravy.

Meanwhile I eat potatoes about once a month, if not less.

Tasting like **** and tasting bland are two different things. I've been cooking for 8 years, I've been to Asia, I've dated an Indian and Japanese girl before, I know what quality rice looks and tastes like. I'm not brainwashed lol.

Rice is more something to balance the heavy flavors of your dish. It's not something you are supposed to eat by itself.

Like you're supposed to eat a piece of meat, then wash it down with the rice. It's not eat the rice separate as a side.

If your rice is bland, you arent even using seasonings on it. I like to put cumin, tumeric, coriander, sumac, salt, pepper, onion powder and garlic powder on it. It has a nice flavor thats similar to a middle eastern dish.

potatoes suck. They have a shelf life. The dried kind that stores forever is only for mashed potatoes, which is the blandest shit known to man. Protein pasta freezes poorly and it's way more expensive calorie per $ over rice, but is good enough. Same with quinoa, tbh.

rice has always been a cheap filler option. it's not healthy, it's not tasty, it's just literal filler. meant to last for years and fill you up with a small portion.

it is worshipped because it's a great filler though. you can dress it up in infinite ways to make cheap and filling meals. just add protein and sauce and veggies and you're golden

This. One strong point rice has though, is that you don't have to add seasonings for it to go with just about anything as a side.

Something that definitely can't be said about pasta, and potatoes. You always have to add a bit of fat (oil/butter) and seasonings for those to be good with most dishes.
