So traditionally are you allowed to train the Polemon in your party that arent dead? I dont intend to over level but I'm still curious

Do you catch duplicates or do you catch the first new Pokemon you encounter in each area? And are you only allowed to catch a Pokemon *once* in an area and then never again?

You can train

As far as duplicates go usually you can skip 3 duplicates. For example if you have pidgey and go to a new a new area and encounter a pidgey 3 times you can skip those, but the 4th you have to catch.

Ive never heard the three thing, mostly the most basic rules are:

Only the first new Pokmon in a new area/route can be caught.

You MUST nickname them.

If it faints it dies.

People add other rules on top if they want to make it more difficult. (Some allowances are made if you need a specific HM to progress and none of your Pokmon can learn it, but you cant use that Pokmon in battle.)

Grinding is allowed, but most people tend to not do much of it unless they have multiple casualties and need to grind up replacements.

Excluding static encounters, you get to catch one Pokemon per area, period. Even if you come back to that area again later, you don't get another one. Theoretically, you could Repel your way through an area without a single encounter and come back to have your first encounter later (like if you want to fish for a Pokemon on that route but you can't get the right rod until later on) if you really wanted to.

As for duplicates, I personally don't count duplicates unless the one I already had before is dead, and I catch the first new encounter. But that differs from player-to-player. Some will catch the first even if it's a duplicate, and some will allow a few chances before eventually settling for a duplicate.
