Seems like a lot of pointlessly wasted space to me. We use literal miles of otherwise perfectly vacant land to bury inanimate objects and mark the plots with carved stone, granite and marble.

I say dig up all the bodies, cremate them, give the ash to the next of kin, and use the land to build businesses and housing, among other things.

Vote Heartomaton in 2028.

I've often thought about this. I've never understood how we haven't run out of space in graveyards. Don't tons of people die every day?

Makes you wonder just how many people die alone and unclaimed.

Respect for the dead? Sure. You can have that.

But the body is not that person. It's their corpse. It's literally glorified waste at this point.

This is to say nothing of bodies that have already decomposed to dust and are just an empty box.

Probably will be my fate. I love alone and it will likely never change. When I die I bet it will be in my apartment and my body won't be discovered for like a week or more

I just hope any pet I have then won't starve. That part worries me

As fun as that would be to say, no. This is in the interest of practicality, which is the opposite of what graveyards are.

Based on a (admittedly rushed) search I did just now, it's pretty much just Orthodox Judaism and Islam in this position. Tiny percentages of the population.

I'm sure we can find some land to allocate for the purpose of those particular burials. The amount of land used for that would be comparatively tiny.

Because I think adjusting already developed land that's attached to population centers as it is would be more cost-effective than clearing out undeveloped land.

Probably not. Youd have a hefty cost to dig up all the dead people. And then a cost for cremation. Also, youd have to pay a lot of people for the land. The land was bought by the people who are in the ground. So, it might not be as cost effective as clearing out unused land. Besides, it also makes more sense business wise. You destroy graveyards for businesses, and those businesses might not get much business at all...
