I think he will be ok, but damn, so close (location and the time a year ago) to the Kobe Accident...

Seriously? I was just reading the news yesterday how he hoped to be fit in time for the next major after recovering from yet another back surgery.

As a young latino growing up I didnt think I had a place in the golfing world. Tiger was the reason I picked up a club and gave golf a try. I think a lot of us minorities are thankful for what hes done whether he knows it or not.

Word. Literally the only reason I ever tried to golf seriously (and quickly learned how awful I was at it) was because I grew up watching him dominate. His life hasn't been squeaky clean, we all know that. But goddamn I hope he survives this.

This is likely. He got in trouble before for reckless driving when they found him asleep at the wheel. The drugs they give you after these major surgeries are very strong. Like most people I only started following golf because of him. In the current overhype era people always talk crap about current sports stars "transcending sport" but he's the one that actually did it. The only person since him I think that actually reached that level on a global superstar scale is Bolt when he was at his peak. Golf is a very difficult sport but when he was in his pomp he made it look easy.

When that becomes your driving consideration, you know you're too hung up on race.

This. I never really saw the appeal of normal golf, although I know people had got into it for networking.

Turns out he wasn't on drugs or anything. The stretch of road he was on is known for causing accidents. It's not yet clear if he was speeding but I guess investigators will solve that. His right leg got busted very bad but unless it gets infected he should recover. In terms of him ever playing high level again it woulda been a lot worse if it was his left leg. That's the one that takes the pressure when you swinging down as a right hander.

You're so out of touch. Wilfully or otherwise. Golf was always seen as an exclusive elite white man's sport. It wasn't even looked at as a sport until TW but their pastime. Always had a bad image. Still does to a degree and I think the impact of TW at the top has been overstated. It's still mostly rich (not from the golf) white guys. Nevertheless, the optics of him coming in and totally dominating that scene certainly ignited people's interest. That's why the sport became so watched. A lot more minorities played at grassroots because of him but it's still hard to progress regardless of ability unless your family is well off. F1 has the same problem.

You should tell that to all the ripped guys out there now that can smash the ball 300 yards. Then again this is the same person that calls people weirdos for calling fries by their correct name, while also claiming to have eaten lion meat burgers in the USA. Nobody should ever take you seriously.

Says the guy not even on this planet. The way you're talking suggests that Tiger Woods was the first black golfer (which he was not), that it's impossible for minorities to get into the game unless minorities are already in the game (at which point no minorities would be in the game), or that representation was somehow keeping them out of the game (instead of, you know, the expense of golfing and exclusionary policies). That and you have to have zero understanding of why the game isn't that popular.

It's almost like one is tied directly to the other. Shocking I know. I even mentioned the prohibitive cost in the same post you quoted. That aside, for a black guy to not just make it but be arguably the best ever, would obviously inspire more people that identify with him (even on a superficial level) to participate more. You just proving my point how out of touch you are. This is basic stuff.

I actually do like dad bods so thanks for the pic. But even an old style golfer like Phil there is in much better shape now, than he used to be in his early days. He always gives a lot of credit to the same Tiger who promoted an athletic physique. The younger guys like Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy etc look like actual sports people.

The funniest part is there's now big controversy over a guy who's so buff he's challenging the conventions of the game. Bryson DeChambeau. He uses brute power to overwhelm the course. Won the US Open by 6 on what was supposed to be a tough course by absolutely muscling the ball everywhere. So your arguments are trash and ill informed as usual. If I had to put it in golfing terms, I'd say you just scored a triple bogey.
