A time travel story where everyone but the protagonist time traveled

He/she wakes up one day and he is the only human actually from CURRENT YEAR. The rest of the world are the time travelers

Could make a good story with an unreliable narrator tbh

Kinda like that episode of arrested development where Buster tries to escape to Mexico but never actually leaves California and just thinks he's in Mexico?

A video game did this exact thing last year.

That video game is 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim.

There's a DS game with that plot twist. Giving away the game/franchise would be a lame spoiler.

If you don't care, it's Professor Layton and the Unwound Future.

Well, if you take the interpretation that the protagonist is an unreliable narrator and the time travel presented within is a representation of his dissociation with reality due to compounded traumas suffered in the course of his life, Slaughterhouse-Five.

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

You joke, but this actually sounds like a fucked up premise that could be good if handled properly.

At least you already know, lmao. It's at the very end of the game and the bulk of the time travel shenanigans in the game are fake. The actual time travel is just the cherry on top.

This could also be done through a series of coincidences that makes the protagonist believe he time travelled, such as seeing a young kid who looks just like him and believing that's his younger self, or happening upon that one existing chain from his childhood that just happens to still be open, or going to a club with a specific theme of the decade he thinks he has travelled to.

So the protagonists causes mischief in the present thinking he's actually making changes in the past.

Oh bruh. Should have just played the game. It's awesome but it deals out its twists fairly regularly and I guess there's no point now. :)

Final Fantasy X sort of counts as this. Except that "it's not time travel" isn't fully slapped in the player's face, so a lot of people finish the game and still don't realise there was never any time travel involved.
