It runs a bit too long and probably could've used a restructure but for what we got, it was enjoyable enough.
The beginning is probably the worst part of the film though it fits into the narrative. Just feels like it should've taken fifteen minutes instead of, like, thirty. There was one point in the beginning where I got distracted and totally forgot the movie was even on lol <_< As a standalone Marvel film, it's pretty standard quality. It's just, getting it in between IW and Endgame, I feel like people were more disappointed because it lacked that scale those two movies had so everybody has a more negative view of the film. I'd recommend if you disliked it, give it another go. I'm not saying it's going to surprise you by being "oh so much better" but you might find more things to like than your first watch through --- The name is wackyteen for a reason. Never doubt. ... Pros:
Samuel L Jackson being Carols sidekick is awesome. Talos is awesome. The Skrull and Kree are a neat addition to the MCU. The feminist message is good. Cons: The plot is formulaic. It feels like a Phase 1 MCU movie. Probably would have been received better then too, just because it's better for a narrative to not introduce a pivotal character right when the pivot is happening.

It's a fine movie in a phase where Marvel movies had stepped away from Phase 1 type storytelling.
It came out between much better movies. It was after Homecoming, Ragnarok, BP, Infinity War, Even fucking Ant Mand and the Wasp and before Endgame and Far From Home. I will put it above Doctor Strange which didn't resonate with me. If I were to split MCU into upper, mid and low tier...it's in the lower tier but one of the better low tier movies. My main problem with the movie is that Carol Danvers was boring as fuck and overshadowed by literally every other character.
Like at the mid-point Monica is going on about how amazing and brave she is and stuff, and based on everything I saw up to that point in the movie, it felt hollow. Granted most of the marvel movies Ive seen have had weird emotional beats that just dont work for me at all. Like in Black Panther the movie tried to build up idk. Larson played practically the exact same character in Skull Island but came off as more fun and interesting there. Something about CM just felt off --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

IIRC she wasn't given anyone else's lines when she got the script or something like that to keep everything spoiler free. That may have been for Endgame though, but I'm positive her "bad acting" was addressed as something to the effect of she was basically acting with zero knowledge of the other characters, and a fuck ton of omitted crucial information on the scenes shed be in so she wasn't sure what emotion her character was supposed to be feeling or motivations etc a lot of the time.
