I dont really think its offensive, as a gay person, but I agree with you that it is very vacuous and badly written to just have everyone be a blank slate with no sexual preferences beyond main character is hot and I must obey. Even if that was done out of necessity it almost feels like it would be better to not have any romance in a game like that period at that point.

Maybe just maybe I am just approaching the issue from a different place than you. And or you are misunderstanding my point . I have no problem with gay people being in games

I simply think npcs should have a set preference.

Maybe in 9th century England the only people who want to have sex with absolute strangers are the ones who are open to anything?

The game doesn't even show anything and there isn't really any "romance" to begin with. It's just a functional addition more than anything.

You can say I'm wrong but I still think I'm right. Can't even imagine giving more than two seconds of thought to such a useless mechanic/feature in the game.

This is a better take and reason than Zikten. It's not offensive for characters to be gay or a large number of them to be gay. That's a silly take. However, one argument can be made is that when everyone is a blank slate it gives another way for developers to ignore the existence of identities. They can check mark their box of being progressive without having to learn anything about sexualities, identities, and differing world views. One size fits all and all that jazz.

If the game doesn't strive for realism and we know this one doesn't, I see no reason to complain

Ultimately its a necessity when you can change your gender at will. If they restricted the romance options based on your sex at the time, it could fuck up the rest of the game when you decide to play the next section as a dude.
