That's strange, what you said above implies Texas isn't and hasn't been a Republican owned state. And yet...it is. What a waste of bandwidth that post was. Do better.
Do you think that this somehow counters the fact that every source that isn't your ass seems to be saying that Texas is looking solidly purple at the least going forward?

I didn't like how Republicans delayed relief for New Yorkers, et. al. during hurricane Sandy. I do not support delaying relief for Texans.

Michelle Obama was correct. When they go low, we'll go high. Unfortunately Stupidity is not illegal, but we're all Americans.

EDIT: History will judge us appropriately.

Texas has the money to bail its citizens out. It doesnt need the federal aid. Its one of the richest states in the union. Emergency aid and food and water aid, yes. Medical aid yes. But repairing its infrastructure and taking care of its citizens is its job. Raise the taxes and get it done.

Do you think hypothetical scenarios and future predictions somehow counter reality and the fact that my statement is 100% accurate? They ARE and historically have been red, idk what to tell you there.
I'll believe it when I see it. They still voted for that idiot Trump, and they'll still vote for Ted Cruz again.

Yes, because these are Americans and a US state. I would however get an ironclad commitment that they will undo the disastrous policies that allowed this to happen and force them back onto the national grid. Clearly their thinking that they can take care of themselves was just overly proud bravado.

you seem to say texas should deal with it as if texas is a monolith. there are many citizens in texas who didnt vote for the ineptitude that has led to this situation, and i dont think those citizens should suffer just because well more of your neighbors did vote for ineptitude. should have lived somewhere else!

im not denying that its the population voting for ineptitude that is an issue. but id much prefer to bail out those who are at fault and mitigate the suffering of those not at fault than let everyone suffer. and believe it or not, i dont even think republican voters should be forced to suffer at the hands of a state government that will assuredly not fix the situation. shocking, i know!

the issue is that these games of trying to gotcha other politicians out of being assholes will not only never work, millions of american citizens suffer as a result of it. you cant argue texas is a state, they should have federal regulation! while at the same time saying theyre on their own, no federal help! i believe the former to be true, they SHOULD abide by federal regulations as much as anywhere else

That is the entire crux of my position: Texas is a red state that has always done their own thing and delighted in their "fuck you" attitude. The GOP has made it crystal clear they don't actually have to play nice or fair or even abide by the law. If we bail them out even with stipulations, they're not going to abide by them and will either weasel out on a technicality, cry until we give up, or just plain tell the Dems to go fuck themselves.
Unfortunately the spineless inaction of Democrats the last 4 years has only emboldened the GOP and made it clear they really can just do wtf ever they want, consequence free.

How in the hell does that work. They get to try to stop others from getting help, they send people like Ted Cruz to washington that hurts everyone else. But when shit hits the fan for them. there it is again. who the fuck is they? Every person in Texas? Not everyone voted for the stooges in power there who are responsible for this; in fact, almost an even amount voted the other way. Those people should get fucked because they were unfortunate enough to live in a state with 5 million red voters?

this isnt a hypothetical scenario. This is millions of human lives put into jeopardy. anyone willing to sacrifice the safety of millions of people to prove a point that wont actually resolve anything in the long run doesnt care about the people there to begin with.

yes, ted cruz and abbott and all in power responsible should pay for this. but leaving millions to freeze to do so is not only cruel and selfish, it wont even make them pay.

You are right. Republican cut services to people. When they need the they should it. No questions ask. I mean the people who talk about bootstaps. And look down at others. When they need help forget about bootstaps just give them everything. Cruz literally tried to stop aid from getting to other victims. And he shut down the government that cost workers billions . A number Dude even left his die to freeze to death. But yeah lets reward all of these people while millions are dying because of no covid aid, and the Republican assault on the ACA.

No. These red states are constantly wanting to leave the US. We are saying let them. They depend on blue states to subsidize their own shitty economies and policies. That is money that could instead be spent on improving the lives of their own citizenry. So let the states that want to leave leave.

As for the Texas situation I've already made my thoughts clear. Help the citizens survive but the state is responsible for fixing their shitty electrical grid since they chose not to follow federal regulations. The state is also responsible for figuring out what to do with the huge bills that the electric companies are charging thwir citizenry.

A state doesnt have opinions! And politicians are not their constituents!

Youre in favor of dooming anyone who doesnt want their state to secede because of where they live. I get its satisfying to say and it makes you feel powerful but there are nuances here beyond the majority decides for everyone, especially when many elections in the states we are talking about are riddled with gerrymandering and other forms of voter suppression. This is a middle school-level, gut instinct response to this problem.

I'm going to guess probably not very many. I won't say zero because well that's just impractical to make that assumption. Realistically, it's only a very small percentage of people in any state that do the "hurr durr we gonna secede" thing. The problem is that the officials they elect are loud, stupid, and corrupt.

As I said prior, my views on what is currently going in Texas is that the feds should help people survive. The federal Government should not be on the hook for fixing the electical situation. That was a completely avoidable position that they now find theirselves in. The politicians of Texas created that mess, they can use the resources of their state to fix it. Unless Texas is willing to hook their grid up to the rest of the country and comply with regulations, it's not on the feds to fix.
