Theyre less secret than they have ever been. You used to have to buy a fucking book or find someone that had the book for your game.

I've always hated any secret that you couldn't figure out from in-game hints. My least favorite are ones that include a percentage chance of it occurring in addition to being completely obscure.

And it's only because they dug through the code, from my understanding. It was not uncovered through natural discovery of it.

Yep. I'm fine with having to look closely, but when finding stuff becomes a matter of combing every pixel such that the only realistic way to find it is to draw on the collective knowledge of the community sharing what everyone has randomly stumbled into. I especially dislike secrets that require you to make blind leaps of faith into death pits in platformers, effectively requiring you to jump into every hole if you want to trial-and-error your way there instead of relying on guides.

The Secret came out in 1982. Twelve treasure boxes were buried at various locations around the US and the book contained the clues to the location. In almost 40 years only three of the treasures have been found.

I saw like, half a documentary on that my roommate was watching. It was pretty nutty how tough the most recent one was to solve.
