I think my modem stopped working earlier. I was looking at the approved modem list from my provider. And after a bunch of not approved ones, I found an approved one. But it was a modem/router combo. Do those tend to work well for many people?

If it's just for basic household use and you don't plan on doing much in the advanced settings and whatnot they're fine.

They do tend to not last as long, but they work when they do.

I've never had a problem with a modem/router combo.

OK. Thanks, everyone! It should work fine. Though, I think it's just an outage that the company is unaware of. The providers site says there's not service, but the new one isn't connecting to the internet. But there are power outages all over town. Hopefully, I can get the internet working within a couple of days. I'll keep switching the new combo modem-router with the old ones until something works. Even if the old ones start working, I'll probably keep the new ones since they might work better being much newer. But I guess I'll have to wait and see...

I had a combo but didn't find it that good. Now I have fibre broadband I have a modem and router separate.

AT&T uses an ARRIS modem/router combo and it's not that great.

Does this mean you had a router beforehand? I don't see any reason to buy a combo if you have a router. I used combos for a while just cause it's short term savings, but I think I lost money in the long run going back and forth between cable/DSL/fiber as I moved (depending on where you live one is a better option than the other). Eventually I settled on a standalone router cause it should work with any modem type.

Yeah. I do have one. The reason I went to the store was because I thought I might have needed a new one. But apparently, not all in the modems work with my providers. For the few standalone modems that I found, those were the ones that werent approved, IIRC. And my phone was running low on battery because I left my charger in the car with my BF. If only someone had been in the electronics department, I could have talked to them...
