I dont trust them to make a new mana game at this point. Another Secret of Mana remake in the same style as Trials though, Id be into that.

The SoM remake was likely so bad because Square gave them a shoestring budget because the series was dead for like 15 years outside of mobile games and Dawn/Heroes were critical and financial flops.

But people complained about how cheap the SoM remake was and how Square messed up one of their classic games they probably had to up the budget for the Trials remake.

I'm hoping for a new game, maybe remake Heroes in the same engine as an action RPG instead of an RTS because that game has a important lore to Trials but is one of the worst games I ever played.

Considering that many aspects of the CD version were recycled into Chrono Trigger and also considering the removal of that content radically changed the structure and story of the SNES game... That would probably be much more jarring than we'd want.

I had no attachment either and tried Trials of Mana recently. The story presentation was sure odd at times, but the gameplay was fun and as it's meant to be played multiple times, the pacing is pretty quick. The job system felt like it might as well not exist, but I also didn't play on a harder difficulty so many the different skills shine more there. I got it on sale for $20 and I thought it was definitely worth that much at least.

Each Mana game is self contained in a Zelda like sense so you can start on any game. (just don't start on the DS/PS2 games)

The best way to sum up ToM remake is 3D Zelda with RPG stats and more focus on combat, party members and Final Fantasy 1's job/party member system if you want to start here.

That sucks, I love LoM. It was the second RPG I ever beat.

Edit: That said I will still get the HD remaster to play it on an updated system engine because I am a huge sucker.
