Im playing IX right now and its great. Bizarre and they change some things up but generally build upon a lot of what VIII had

i have. it was solid. the difficulty balance was pretty lame, though. normal mode was way too easy, all i had to do was spam attack. but hard mode was fucking stupid because you get LESS xp per kill so not only are enemies tougher (more HP, harder hits) but in order to keep pace with their levels you had to grind. can't believe anyone thought that was a good idea. i'd run through the levels on normal and mindlessly spam attack then crank up to hard for bosses
