That will never match up to the fun of a two hour long freeform jam, and you don't need to spend thousands of dollars to get a good tone. Most people just lack the drive to stick with something that actually takes a bit of work if they're not being forced to do it. I feel like you're on a high horse and not for a particularly good reason. Many of the "most people" you speak of undoubtedly invest time into other areas of life instead and excel. You only have so much time and energy to dedicate and only to a very limited number of endeavors. Mastering Through the Fire and the Flames on Guitar Hero has to be much easier than on a real guitar, and even if it wasn't, it's much easier to find people willing to mess around on Guitar Hero for a bit than to find people who want to play in a band --- (...
