A man who stormed the U.S. Capitol while sporting face paint, no shirt and a furry hat with horns was moved to a jail in Virginia on Thursday after a federal judge ordered authorities to provide him with organic food while he's in custody.
Jacob Chansley was transferred to the Alexandria Detention Center after his attorney argued that his client had gone nine days without eating because organic food wasn't served at the jail in Washington. A judge ordered corrections officials to provide the special diet.
Chansley lost 20 pounds since being transferred from Arizona to Washington last week, his attorney, Albert Watkins, told the judge. Chansley, who calls himself the QAnon Shaman, considers eating organic food to be part of his shamanic belief system and way of life, the lawyer said.

Dietary preferences and prisons are a weird thing to me. Like above all I belive prisons should be places focused on rehabilitation and that inmates are wards of the state and thus it is imperative that the state provide them with all basic human needs and not cause undue comfort simply for the sake of it.

Part of that absolutely includes their diet. Prisoners should be provided nutritionly balanced food sufficient to keep them adequately healthy. Part of that health is emotional so, the food should have a standard for both variety and taste. And I do belive that reasonable dietary preferences should be observed. So non-animal alternatives for vegans/vegetarians. Non-pork for practitioners of various religions. Gluten-free options for people with allergies. But I don't know where the line for reasonable can be drawn. Like organic food is trendy and popular sure, but it has no solid evidence to indicate that organic food is in any way better for you, so should those preferences be observed? And if not how do you say that preference is less valid than vegetarianism?

Most is the keyword. This probably isnt it, but because this prison is protecting themselves from law suites with rules probably left wing people put in place( which I'm not even sayong I'm disagreeing with, cause prison reform is important) now people are going to act like they are supporting the rioters.

Like I feel like tie goes to the runner on organic food. I think his shamanism religion is stupid, but I'm not going to pretend that I feel like all religions are super valid either.

Just provide them with decent food.

Though I'm also annoyed at the idea of prisoners being fed better food than people on the streets. Of course, the solution to that would be providing better economic means to those outside of prison rather than drag prisoners down to their level.

But hey I tend to be way too idealistic about these sorts of things.

I mean, are you in favor of prison reform or not?

I hate this Qanon Shaman guy and I hope he spends a decade or two in prison, but I need to be consistent with my own viewpoint that I feel prisons should be reformed in a long list of ways and diet is a part of that equation.

Do you believe in prison reform or not?

It's stupid that this story is getting attention and it is extremely possible that he is only getting his way die to white privilege, but it isn't necessarily wrong to give him a diet that adheres to his stupid and fake religion.

There should also be food options for vegans, muslims, and whatever else too.

I just think prisoners should be fed decent because to do otherwise would cost us our own humanity. I don't think it is asking too much to just feed them decent.

And yeah it's a damn shame that people outside of prison go hungry too and that should be prioritized above this, but you can still think they should all be problems that should be fixed.

The Shaman is a total POS, but let's let real, most prisoners are. I'm still gonna want them to be fed and somewhat taken care of, but in prison for a long time.

Prison reform isn't exactly on the top of my list and as far as prisoners go the Qanon Shaman is far from a big priority for me personally, but I've always believed in prison reform and to that extension a reform of the entire criminal justice system. It is one of the many things in America that are entirely broken.

So do you believe in prison reform or not?

You can still be in favor of that and hope this loser doesn't leave prison for 20 or more years.
