Depending on what it is, you may be able to file a hardship claim with the provider and get them waived or reduced. Or you can go to a church and see if they can help...

True that then

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that if you make below a certain amount per year (Think it was like $36k?) that you can file to have all your medical bills forgiven. Forgot the exact process or law that allows this, maybe someone behind me can provide the documentation. Think you can have partial forgiveness if you're a little above that, I'm not sure what the cutoff point is for not having any of it forgiven.

Found something, it's charity care

Why is it that he can hit a 3rd baseman on a frozen rope from 300 feet away, but he can't hit a 12 foot tall catcher from 60 feet 6 inches away?

Yeah I wish that was a joke. I was a broke college kid working 3 jobs to pay for classes, and got a kidney stone and thought I was dying so I went to the ER.

They set up a payment plan with me, and apparently they got a bounced notification one month and instead of telling me so I could fix it I woke up to be served court documents.

After 7 years it will disappear from your credit report...

And I have ignored several decent sized medical bills and was never sued probably because it would have cost them more money than they would have received.

I don't know anything beyond that though.

Edit.

Jeez given Harley's experience I have no idea.. And 2 of my neglected medical bills were kidney stones. Haha.

iv never dealt with it personally, but iv seen others who have and all of them amounted to being handed over to a collector and being hounded on the phone for several years before stopping. or you end up paying $5 for life just to shut them up.

It probably depends a lot on geographical location. Being in a college town I assume they were sue happy because they figured if they sue a college student the parents will step in and help.

It really didn't get them anywhere me except me having to go through my finances to prove to the judge that I wasn't pretending to be poor.

I ended up throwing my tax return at it to get it payed off, and the judge was gave me a lot of leeway about paying the court cost.

I had a bill of $3500 2 years ago from just some tests I had and some meds.I actually had to take out of my 401k just so they wouldn't send it to collections where I would of ended up paying more.

If I have to do anything serious before I retire I'm simply gonna just tell them I ain't got it and file bankruptcy.
