Really such a fucking tragedy. I remember getting a headache because I was frantically searching through everywhere hoping that someone would report that it was a hoax or false information. RIP Black Mamba.

I remember it so clearly because I fell asleep watching Sportscenter the night before and one of the last things I saw was a Lebron interview talking about Kobe because he was about to pass him in all time scoring. It was literally like just several hours before he passed.

There was a PGA tournament that day and I got the news just as I was walking through security.

I remember kind of wandering around in a trance for a little while not really able to put together coherent thoughts. Never been affected by a celebrity death that much.

when I opened up my Internet today I saw an article talking shit about the pilot. Did he do something wrong? I only know that the weather wasnt ideal.

Was there ever a decisive verdict about what happened in that case?

I mean I read that the pilot was pressured to make the flight, but damn even if Kobe Bryant demands you fly him to a location you'd think 20 years of flight experience would trump whatever a celebrity had to say about it.

Nope. COVID pandemic had been around before then around the holidays of 2019. Shut down didn't happen until March 2020.

I didn't care then and I still don't care now. I think it is extremely weird to feel effected by a celebrity death. I doubt anyone ITT ever met him. I will reserve my grieving for those that I have an actual relationship with.

I know the helicopter was missing some safety equipment that, while not legally required by the FAA, could have alerted the pilot to the oncoming hillside.

Basically it was a foggy morning, it was unclear if the pilot was adequately briefed on the situation, they were near the destination, but flying through the fog disoriened the pilot, and he couldn't see where they were going or distinguish the heading of the copter just by sight, which should have been rising instead of descending. He was even talking a little to air traffic control with no distress in his voice moments before the crash, so there wasn't any sort of mechanical failure that he may have noticed that would lead to the crash. Why he didn't heed the instrumentation indicating that he was going down is odd. Chances are he was also getting lightheaded due to the flight maneuvers he had to take and thus he wasn't thinking clearly and his reactions were stunted, thus he couldn't heed air traffic controls warnings and after that it was too late to avoid the crash.

I'll always remember but as the day I backed out of having my cat put down, just to have to do it four days later.
