Hmm... I mean it's good, but I don't like the part where the hero didn't ride off into the sunset with his galpal after defeating the villain, while a chorus played.

I've watched it a two or three times.

It has been a few years, and I've rekindled my love of good movies recently. So I'm interested in rewatching, but I bought my wife the book. She wants to read it before we watch the movie, as she hasn't seen it before...taking too long though lol

I wish I could recommend this movie to more people but the ones around me simply don't appreciate any western, much less a subversion of the genre. I know NCFOM isn't a western in the traditional sense

Unforgiven is another good one

Ultra try-hard philosophical movie. I love watching nerds try hard to dissect every little detail from movies like this. It makes me feel like a normie when compared.

I'm still hoping and praying Blood Meridian gets a theatrical release. Part of its greatness is the writing itself, sure, but it's such a bleak novel that I think it could translate great to film (if the Coens did it...)

I dont like heavy analysis of art, art is about how it makes you feel when you consume it.

I disagree, but I can't say your opinion is wrong. You really can't go wrong with Coen bros movies. My personal favorite is O Brother Where Art Thou. Had the greatest movie soundtrack ever until Llewyn Davis came out.

Is the antagonist supposed to be an appealing character that watchers/readers sympathize with. I think by the end of the film you sort of rooting for him.

Fun fact. Javier Bardem's uncle, Juan Antonio Bardem, was one of the most acclaimed filmmakers of fascist Spain, often making films with subtle (out of necessity) critiques of society.

I enjoyed the book, but the lack of punctuation made it really difficult to follow along with sometimes.
