I don't know how I can ever go back to an office. I mean, I know I'll have to sometime soon, but right now I'm sitting on my couch cuddled up with a soda and a snack next to me while I'm waiting for my next client to show up. I get to wear sweats because they can't see from the waist down. lol. I do miss in-person interactions but this is great too! Plus, I'm completely independent with no oversight or micromanaging. *sips soda*

Me too. I am super worried because when I got back to work after being out 6 months for alcoholism treatment the first week back was sooooo overwhelming. It was so bright, there was so much ambient noise and a lot of people talking. I had a sensory overload and had to go to my car a few times because even the bathroom was so busy.

I've been working from home for 10+ years now so I can't even imagine having to work in an office full time.

I still miss it, but I wouldn't mind working from home 2-3 times a week. I know the company I work for is debating it so they can cut down on the amount of office space they need (they currently have at least 6 offices in my city, was 7 but they let the lease run out on one of them this month).

A lot of companies are doing this. Mine is. They are downsizing more offices faster than planned and are thinking about reworking their telework policy because our SLOs are so high after working from home. They stopped letting people work from home because they were building these large central offices with 99 year leases but after only 3 years decided to sublet one of our buildings to a different company.

Working from home has many benefits: family bonding, saves gas, saves commute time, and minimizes time spent with annoying co-workers.

I had a job that, admittedly was a poor fit for a few reasons (though my boss thought I was fantastic), but when it was looking like I'd be in the office a few days a week at least, that was just stress on top of stress I didn't want so I just quit and decided to take my life in a different direction entirely.

I don't work anymore, but at first my fiance didn't like working from home, but she strongly prefers it now. The only benefit that I can see from working in an office is that you are around your peers and you can bullshit for a few minutes talking to each other.

Oddly enough, I have heard the one thing that has kept most office workers at home: Open floor plans. The CDC drafted a plan to go back to the office back in June and one of the biggest regulations was that the office had to have full cube walls between desks and people had to be seated at least 6 feet apart. Look at any modern office and that is pretty much impossible, so they have been forced to keep everyone home until they either change the entire layout of their office space, or until those regulations are lifted (which isn't going to happen any time soon). And with how productive WFH has been shown to be why would they spend the money to re-organize their office?

Yeah we have the open floor plan low cube walls too and each set of cubes houses two people back to back. They already stuffed us in like sardines to use the buildings. They wouldn't be able to fit all of us if they had to socially distance us.

I've got a little taste of both lives going on. Mondays and Wednesdays I work from home and get to sit on my couch with a fire going and my dogs sitting next to me while I complete busy work that normally takes a while with the distractions that occur in the office. There's also the occasional bit of help I have to give to my daughter and 3 nieces who are doing remote learning.

The rest of the days I come in, work from the office and take care of everything that wouldn't be possible to do from home. I am enjoying the split and it honestly feels like I get things done more efficiently.

Is that just cause your managers arent checking up on you or cause youre independent as in self employed?

They don't really check up on me. There are weekly and monthly reports I have to fill out but that's pretty much it.

The biggest downside of working from home is that my girlfriend sometimes has to as well. We live in a loft where there is virtually no privacy and due to the confidential nature of my work, I have to go outside to my car for hours at a time.

I wonder if this board being a video game board and likely full of introverts means there's an uneven representation of people who enjoy remote work over going into the office (I'm an introvert too, socializing drains me, but I still miss the office so not saying that's a 1to1 but probably correlated).

Our company survey showed more than 3/4s of my office want to return to the office (though with 2-3 days wfh each week).

edit: also probably helps having nice office amenities and perks >_>

I would be perfectly happy if I never had to go to the office again. I feel kind of bad saying this, because I know a lot of people are sick and dying and losing their jobs, but COVID has been great for me.

I wish it was basically pre-covid but with the option to wfh every day if I wanted. I like many things about wfh but after so long it gets really lonely. The office is open but even if I were to go in it's not nearly the same thing anymore and it might not ever be, since they downsized the space after the end of their last lease.

I'm on the opposite end. I'm an extrovert, but I've appreciated some of the benefits of working alone from home. It's just harder to stay on task at times with distractions.... like right now. Lol

I've been an addictions counselor for 5 years and I'm currently in the middle of my masters program to be a Marriage and Family Therapist. So technically, the work I'm doing right now is part of an internship. I plan to return to my actual job at an outpatient clinic at the end of the year when most of my studies are out of the way.

I considered myself an introvert before all this but I'm going insane from the WFH and it has exacerbated my previous mental health issues. Does not help that every aspect of my life including therapy is done from home.

I wonder how many true introverts are out there. I find it hard to believe that very many people would genuinely enjoy or at least prefer solitude. It's a nice thing to have once in a while, but I'm always much happier to be around people I like spending time with. Still though, I'd usually call myself an introvert cause I'm by no means a natural when it comes to socializing.

Not trying to say you are bad at socializing cause I get it, obviously everyone is kinda limited with it now.

Maybe that is what it is, extrovert that is bad at socializing. I enjoy spending time with people but its difficult and stressful. It also always leads to me second guessing everything I said during the interaction when I get home later.

It's not ideal because it's a little harder to see certain aspects of their body language and it's much more impersonal imo. I don't think I can convey as much warmth as I would if we were face to face. Still doable and there are some other benefits to telehealth such as convenience, comfort, and being able to see my clients in a home environment.
