I've been trying to figure this one out myself and I think it's basically because Joe Rogan is absolutely that guy who insists on talking to you about some issue he knows you disagree on. And to begin with you think "hey, this guy is reasonable, calm, collected, willing to talk things out" but then over the course of the conversation you realise that he's doing it all in bad faith and his entire goal here is just to prop himself up as some kind of messianic mediator of the peace.

In short, he's somehow more annoying than the people you rabidly disagree with because it's impossible to discern if he holds any actual opinion seriously.

Like UnfairRepresent, but a chadbro.

A lot of people hate Rogan because he is willing to talk to pretty much anybody. Its not enough that someone disagrees with you, the idea is that you should not be allowed to speak your different opinion. This is why youll hear the word platform thrown around when theyre advocating silencing Rogan, as in he should not have a platform that likewise gives a platform to people, with views they dont like, a chance to discuss and debate their views.

The fact that Rogan also hunts, is rich and has several of his own controversial views (but really, its the trans athletes issue) doesnt help.

Don't you think it's odd to say that we should allow anyone on joe rogan's famous podcast to speak their mind...and simultaneously hold that we shouldn't say how we feel about that on our dingy little message board?

I mean even if that's not what you meant that's what you're arguing towards here. The problem isn't alex jones or whoever talking shit, it's the liberals on gamefaqs and twitter talking shit.

Essentially you should be completely in favour of people levelling criticism at joe rogan even if you like him personally.

Of course he HAS to host Jones again. He almost has an obligation to host him. His last apearence on the show is a good example of the "both sides" shit Joe plays. Have Jones on to appease the people who think he's being censored since the move to Spotify while also fact checking Jones to appease the people who think Joe just lets Jones spout out random bullshit

Thing is, the current situation is far beyond the point of some harmless academic debate between two individuals where two parties make polite chit chat and discuss some points and then hopefully come to an understanding or something.

We're facing a global epidemic of misinformation. Not simply "guy was wrong about that" or "didn't have all the facts", but an insidious terror strategy with millions of people being targeted deliberately with misinformation campaigns designed to terrify and militarise them.

Your Capitol was stormed by your own constituents who were probably well-meaning. And yes I'm serious about "well-meaning", because yes they are terrorists, but I bet every single one of them thought they were saving America.

We're past the point of "'let's just hear them out", especially when these pundits get up on the biggest radio channels and lie constantly.

So here's the problem with Alex Jones on Joe Rogan. He gets to say whatever shit he wants and there's not an equal response that buries his lies with the respect they deserve. Guys like Rogan just let them go wild on the show.

And before anyone says it, I'm not in favour of "shutting down debate". What I am in favour of is holding liars accountable. And no one is holding Alex Jones accountable for the nonsense he says.

And whatever your rights to free speech are, I don't think they include your freedom to go on the biggest podcast in the world and talk freely for as long as you like without comment.

Alex Jones on Rogan isn't debate. It's theatre, and the scary part is that to many people it's non-fiction. It serves more as propaganda than information.

Maybe not inviting conspiracy crackpots onto your famous talk show for the purpose of theatre at a time when so many people are ready to tear down democracy at the slightest invitation would be a start. And if that is somehow impossible, then actually engage them in a serious debate (you know, the supposed freedom of intellectual thought or whatever these conversations are supposed to be about) and attack the issues with hardball questions.

Rogan isn't exactly Jeremy Paxman or Larry King, is he? He throws out a softball question, let's Alex Jones reel off some insanity for 10 minutes and then sits there laughing. Are we supposed to congratulate this in the spirit of free speech or something? I think that's a low standard to set.

Basically if you want a forum where people discuss difficult questions this ain't it.

If the government is deplatforming you, it is

What if i said it was okay for you to disagree with free speech because speech can be dangerous?
Its ok. Free speech comes with risks and you can have a nuanced position.

But lets stop pretending that government mandates to restrict political commentary is "free speech"

Which many many liberals support.

I can't speak for anyone else but my problem with him is he has no real stance. He shifts his beliefs and politics to match his guest. So if he is talking to a leftist he becomes more left meaning, if he talks to someone to the right his beliefs shift accordingly. If he interviews someone like Alex Jones he starts agreeing with any crazy belief Jones has that day. He is a political chameleon and that makes his platform dangerous. Of course he can have anyone on his show he wants and I will defend his right to believe whatever he wants.

Joe Rogan, the real Joe Rogan is probably a chill guy with very liberal beliefs but when you watch his show will you experience the real Joe Rogan?

Yeah as someone who listened to Rogan for many years his podcast started to shift in the last year or so. I mean, warnings signs were there, but the bad parts of the show became a lot more prevalent.

Honestly, my biggest beef with Rogan is by far his complaining about covid restrictions. Dude is still making boatloads of money just talking to people. Celebrities with extremely privileged lives have zero right to complain about covid restrictions. It is by far the most petty thing for anyone to complain about. If you have some money coming in, a roof over your head, and good health then you should have more gratitude than not right now.

Rogan isn't one of those people. He really misses performing comedy and going out to eat at restaurants. He doesn't like wearing masks. Oh, but he gets tested for covid all the time and so does anyone that walks into his studio. So he likes to talk a big game, but he's not exactly living that way.

Bill Burr had a brilliant take down of Rogan many months ago while on his podcast. Really showcases how much smarter and better of a comic Burr is though Rogan is also a buffoon. Rogan basically tried to troll Burr by asking what he thought of covid restrictions and if they were helping. Burr responded with a very long rant where his big point was that it's stupid for two comics to discuss this when it's way over their heads and that they should defer to experts and just try to follow protocols. He also ripped into Rogan for hesitations about wearing masks and stuff like that.
