Ughhhhhhhh well I finally got the Overdrive -> AP weapons for everyone. Rikku took me an hour. Ill just level up more before I waste my time trying to get eveyone

Not really, although in each area there are hotspots. So for example in the Calm lands, you're more likely to get a malboro in the south west of the area, but if you go to the north east you'll jsut get the weakass stuff like robots and wasp things.

A good strategy I suppose is to make sure you don't have counter weapons on for anyone. Only use melee attacks for finishers. Wakka, auron and Tidus are the people you need capture weapons for.

Well, I think some areas in a zone is more likely to spawn specific encounters than others. I remember that being particularly true about calm lands where you're more like to get ogre encounters in one corner or so, and coeurls in another, etc. I think there's also some talk about tonberry encounters in the sunken cavern being higher in some specific areas, but I don't remember specifically which, or even if it was just a myth.
