Yea the idea to set each movie in a different decade is kinda ruined by the fact the characters don't really age

Magneto definitely looks in his 30s at least, but yes, it's jarring.

Assbender should have had white hair at least if he's trying to play Magneto

Yeah, this is one of the things that really annoyed me about those movies.

You basically go from the 60s, to the 70s, to the 80s, to the 90s from First Class to Dark Phoenix. They all look pretty much the same as far as how old they are. Then in the 2000s they look like they age 30-40 years.

As someone else said they shouldn't have done the decades thing.

they're about in their early 30s in First Class, which takes place in the 60s.

Days of Future Past takes place in the 80s, where they should be in their 40s.

Apocalypse in the 80s, and Dark Phoenix in the 90s.

so we're looking at 60+ year old characters who look like they're still in their 30s.

and the first X-Men movie in the original timeline takes place in the early 2000s, iirc, so it's going to be a rough ten years, because they look super old in those.

They probably should have hired new actors for the two in Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix. But then again nothing could have those movies so it doeasnt really matter.

Days of Future Past takes place in the early 70s. And the original movies dont say the exact year that they take place, only Sometime in the not too distant future which could mean anywhere from 2000 to 2010 for all we know.

idk how accurate this is, but I found it googling:

https://tinyurl.com/y6ybsezm

Take Magneto, who is just 14 years old when we meet him during World War II in a First Class prologue. Since that sequence takes place in 1944, we know the character was born around the year 1930. While that makes him a perfectly reasonable 32 by the time Fassbender takes over for the 1962-set bulk of First Class, it also means that Fassbender is playing 43 in Days of Future Past and a deeply insane 53 in Apocalypse. I know the 39-year-old Fassbender has got a somewhat rugged face, but this is ridiculous.

so if Magneto, for example, was about 32 in First Class, which apparently took place in '62, it would mean that by 2000-2010s, he'd be around his 70s & 80s.

I've heard that mutants age more slowly than humans, but I still think it was a bad decision not to at least use make-up or something to show some kinda progression in age.

This would be a good way to explain it if we weren't jumping from Dark Phoenix to the OG X-Men movie, which should only be 10ish years or less, and Magneto looks like he drastically ages like 30-40 years in that time

And the actor could have easily passed for (youthful) 50's if they just gave him some lighter hair:

was charles losing his hair in apocalypse part of the comic books.. as in he lost because of a power struggle instead of regular baldness?

because that one bugged me since i always assumed he lost the hair because of his age.

No, losing it was part of the manifestation of his powers and originally he was bald by the time he got out of high school, I think.

He was bald as a teenager when he started getting his powers. The movies seemed more concerned in making up shit to convenience the actors, like the whole power blocking drug being linked to his ability to walk (allowing the actor to be in more action scenes)
