The Danish Government has stolen syringes and needles paid for by a couple Swedish Regions while the materials were transported through Denmark. The Danish Government denies this but the Swedish Government and Swedish EU MPs from several parties are now involved. The EU MPs are reporting Denmark to the EU Commission.

This could end up being very costly for Denmark (having to pay damages) and then we have the diplomatic damage.

This also potentially affects Norway since they buy surplus medical supply from Sweden since they are not an EU-member and therefore struggle to get material right now. Norway would have zero doses of covid vaccine if it wasnt for Sweden convincing the EU to help them.

Im reading reports in a FB nurse group where they are going out on 1ml syringes which is pretty much needed in neonatal care since you gotta give very small doses. Yeah you can dilute it and give with more fluid but its bot optimal especially subcutanious since that will cause pain for the sick babies.

I'm not seeing how Danish authorities thought they'd ever be able to get away with this, so I'm inclined to think that they didn't do it intentionally. That said, I am obviously biased, and I'm having a hard time finding Danish news articles from sources I'd trust.

Hot take: Why does one country have more right to these syringes than another country? Of course it's not very nice for us, but the whole world needs these materials and there's not enough. It's not like they're doing it to spite us, right?

Germany only temporarily banned exporting medical supplies in a sort of "Germany first" kind of move

The French were the ones who actively confiscated facemasks at the border

I don't think it would be necessarily malicious if done by the govt. Shitty for us in Sweden yeah, but the intent would obviously be to vaccinate people.

Scar is much more forgiving than me but this point of his is 100% true: the needles and syringes would at least have been put to good use somewhere if they had been taken by the Danish Government.

Now it seems like a bunch of medical supplies believed to exist dont actually exist. Which means that the global shortage is larger than believed and this risks the lives of many people.

I was thinking of studying abroad in Denmark but wasn't sure how nice they are there. Also I'll probably wanna go somewhere warmer actually since it'll be january-may

Governments are meant to care for their citizens, for good or for bad. Personally I think the administration of vaccines would need to be globally planned, but that's not going to happen.

Nothing really gives a country more inherent right, but if one has paid for the product then another country shouldn't be stealing it without working something out with said country first I feel. I do agree that the countries should be working together instead of only worrying about getting as much as possible for themselves and everyone else can ????? as far as they care.

Sure, it is shitty. And to be clear (and I think this is what you mean?) I don't personally think that's what the countries should do, it's just what I think they're supposed to do. I would prefer if there was a priority based on need rather on based on who paid for it, but you know how it is :)
