With one day left in his tenure, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo took to his taxpayer-funded Twitter account and denounced multiculturalism, saying it is "not who America is."

"Woke-ism, multiculturalism, all the -isms they're not who America is. They distort our glorious founding and what this country is all about. Our enemies stoke these divisions because they know they make us weaker," he wrote Tuesday.
But Pompeo himself, who is widely believed to have 2024 presidential ambitions, has stoked those very divisions with loaded rhetoric and dog whistles decrying "wokeness" and an American way of life "under attack" during protests against racial injustice and police brutality.

The secretary of state's assertion that "multiculturalism" is not part of the American ethos was swiftly denounced as a shocking and racist affront to the workforce he leads, the agency he represents and the values it is meant to espouse.
"Unconscionable," one diplomat said.

And yet everyone was gargling Pompeo's balls yesterday because he attacked China.

Here's the thing though, if people want to say the country was founded on racism and has had systemic racism since the beginning that never went away, then he would be right. You can't say the country is all about multiculturalism but then also say it was founded as a white nation to enslave black people. They are literal opposites.

While I agree with him about the comments about wokeness being a problem in current society, I don't get his complaints about multiculturalism since America has always taken aspects of other cultures and blended them into our own to form new traditions or celebrations. I'm guessing he is trying to rally Trump supporters behind him for some type of campaign.

Tbf, it's been well known that China and Russia try to push multiculturalism in America as they think it weakens the hardy culture and mindset that rallied America during WW2

Doesn't seem mean they're right, but it's what they think

i doubt Russia thinks that but I could be wrong.

mainly because Russia knows how much America participated in WW2.

If anything Russia would want that hardy culture because it means wed do about as much against them as we did against the axis.

Is Pompeo one of those classic, salt of the earth names descended from the Santa Maria?

If he's gonna go all in and denounce multiculturalism and "wokeism" and all that, then there's no reason not to speak at him in a broken Italian accent or to turn his rhetoric around on him and tell him to get on a boat and fuck off. The reason no-one will do that is out of a basic sense of decency and a desire not to attack a man based on his cultural background, because that's fucked up and rude.

Immigrants, regardless of what generation they are and how naturalised they are, deserve more respect than this human turd seems to think they do. If Pompeo wants to foster an environment where deviation from the "great American norm" is rejected and attacked, then how would he react to anti-Italian bias? How would he cop all the abuse about cooking a nice pizza like Mama used to make, or getting out of the country, that his comments invite? That's the same backlash other races and nationalities face for practicing cultural practices deemed un-american by his reasoning. Chances are, the things he does are as tied to the Italian-American experience as it is to the Republican WASP dipshit experience - just as ripe for the picking for a racist fuckface as the aberrant traits he hints at in his bigoted statement.

It wouldn't be fair. It'd be culturally intolerant and cruel to do so - so let's not. But that's what he's inviting onto others. If he wants to stoke hatred towards other cultural backgrounds like this, then he can deal with the extremist fuckfaces throwing slurs at him because of his Italian heritage. Fuck him.

I think it's more that that mindset was how majority of Americans followed and they believe pushing multiculturalism can hurt unity and cause people to tribe off and all that fun stuff
