Yu Yevon isn't a boss it's an unlosable plot fight.

This is like saying the final boss of FF7 is a 1vs1 fight with Sephiroth.

The difference is you actually have to fight Yu Yevon. The Sephiroth 1v1 is basically a cutscene.

FF X. Yu Yevon is technically the final boss of that and is easily the worst.

There's not really a difference. While you can choose to ignore the "cutscene" of Yu Yevon, the game simply does not proceed until you sacrifice all your Aeons at which point he just dies.

Gee, it's hard to pick just one since they're all so horrible. One of the final bosses is literally just a big floating tick who dies in one hit.

Eh. I'll go with One Winged Loser. Stupid design (one wing is impractical regardless of intended symbolism), awful song, and that fucking 2 minute attack animation that's supposed to be a display of power but can't even fucking kill anything since it's just a longer version of Demi. Oh, and the whole thing is just a big rip-off of FF6's final battle sequence. Yeah, ripping off the previous installment. That's how creatively bankrupt Square was in their "prime".

I completely disagree with FF9 though. That whiny crossdresser certainly didn't deserve to be the final battle. Even Square could recognize that. Plus FF9's the one with a random orb in a completely random spot being the most powerful entity even more powerful than that primal death god or whatever the surprise final boss is, so.....

Nope. Even if you do nothing Cloud eventually just takes control of his life and omnislashes Seph without player input.

You can't have materia for that fight the game automatically unequips it all just before it starts. So your experience is actually the same for everyone.

FFV

Kind surprised no one's said this. I had to be super cheap and go in with a 2x summon + mimic strategy to beat this. I literally don't see how people could beat it legit without getting frustrated to the point of quitting.

After getting through that slog that was Omega every other fight in the game seems reasonable by comparison

I'm going with Orphan because he has that instant kill move that can make you lose instantly if it hits you main character. Happened to me and it felt really unfair. Yu Yevon isn't a boss fight at all. It's totally scripted, it's not there to challenge the player at all. Braska's final aeon was the actual final boss.

Braska's Final Aeon was an awesome boss with awesome music. I think it's unfair to trash on the game for ending with Yu Yevon when it was clearly a plot device.

I don't think anyone who said Yu Yevon was trashing the game. Just the fight.

Necron was good prep for the optional ozma fight in ff9 though too. Fuck ozma. Fuck ozma.

Also I think part of what made ultimecia castle take so long in ff8 was that the main strategy for it is using Eden with the boost skill on. It's summon animation is already like 8 minutes, and you're just pressing square to boost its attack the entire time, and there are so many bosses in that dungeon. Including ultimecia who has tons of hp.

Its funny that Hironobu Sakaguchi goes gaga for 9 when it seems that the general opinion is that it has some of the worst shit in the series.
9 is easily one of the best of the 3 3d games on the ps1.

Using summons offensively is a trap in FFVIII. Using Aura to spam Limits is the dominant strategy, followed by just attacking normally. The only benefit to summons is that you theoretically take less damage, but most bosses in the game can't threaten you much anyway. Like Ultimecia herself really, Griever has that one attack it does when it dies that does a lot of damage and other than that she barely scratches you and is so slow that even her reduce to 1 HP move is pretty meaningless because you'll get multiple turns per character before her next one.

To be fair, the last time I played 8 was easily 15 years ago. I need to go back to it.

Yeah Doomtrain is great but you don't use it repeatedly for damage, you just summon it once for the super strong "why does this work on everything and always take effect" vitality=0 status effect and move on to stabbing things

I think it was also I was using the Brady guide for ff8 when it came out, and it flat out said to boost eden to clear ultimecia castle.

Most people fell for the summon trap I think. When I first played it literally every fight all I did was spam summons until I got filtered by the Adel fight where it is extremely difficult to win with summon spam due to them killing Rinoa.

Aww I see

There are two ways to end that fight:

1. Kill Sephiroth with Omnislash.

2. Let Sephiroth attack you (it will drop your HP significantly but cannot kill you). Cloud will automatically counter (not Omnislash) and Sephiroth will die.
