I voted ff9 cause of Necron. He was actually difficult since he could insta-wipe your party, but even story wise I'm just like "no..no no no....no".

Second vote would've been Vayne. Being an actual interesting Villain, he was too damn easy to beat at the end. I also don't think they gave Vayne enough attention in FF12, but they had a problem giving characters with the letter V in their name any attention at all. That's another topic altogether though

As much as I love FF9 overall, its Necro, and not for being difficult, just his coming out of nowhere bullshit.

In terms of gameplay, FFT imo. She's got like 2000 HP and the heavy hitters in your party clock in at ~500 damage or more. She can literally die in 1 round. I wanted some epic battle, not some wafer.

In terms of storyline, FF9 because who the hell is necron

Three or four cure spells from the hero guy, and the boss dies.
Incidentally, that also makes this the best bossfight.

If you're grouping Necron with Kuja, then it's Ultimecia. Standing alone, Necron is the absolute pits.

Buh? He's not undead...

If Benjamin casts Cure on him, it will break the damage limit and do more than 10,000 damage to the Dark King due to an overflow error, allowing the player to defeat him easily.

Huh. TIL. I just had Phoebe on cure duty, I think. Cool.

Stuff, he's multi form and has one hell of a battle theme, so he's at least got that going for him.

FF9 gets some flack for the surprise final boss but FF4 wasn't THAT much different. Most of the game you think it's Golbez until you find out it's really Zeromus.

I love FF9 but from a plot perspective Necron comes out of no where. But it's a fun fight

Yu Yevon in FFX works from a plot perspective but is intentionally a shit fight.

I mean if you were to count only Yu Yevon in FFX, since it IS the last fight, it would be that.

This is why I grouped a few of them together, in hopes it would spur the competition a bit. Otherwise Necron is going to take the cake faster than FF8 did with its Plot Twist.

Gotta give it to Necron, for reasons already stated.

Vayne wasn't too bad imo. Probably the smartest thing he does is put up a Paling for a good chunk of the fight, forcing you to simply tank his attacks until it wears off. This is kind of cop-out padding maneuver, but since like many other FF final bosses he'd otherwise be a pushover after you've done all or most of the side content, anything to extend the length / difficulty of the final fight is welcome. Plus I think 'Struggle for Freedom' is an underrated final boss track:

You can actually lose.

1. Go into the fight with Lulu using the weapon that has a chance to Petrify on hit.
2. Attack the party members that aren't Lulu. They will petrify and shatter in a single hit and cannot be recovered by the healing effect.
3. Attack lulu last.
4. (You will have to fight the final boss again there's no saving between it and Yu Yevon.)

I just assumed Necron was "God" or something. Seems like it's backstory was cut; S-E had a lot of content on the cutting room floor in the post-FF7 PS1 era.
