Kinda pissed off about this, not going to lie. My home town, in the hill country, used to be so nice and peaceful and now it is being over loaded with people who want to move there.... and then vote for higher taxes. Wtf, why not just stay in those Democratic states since they are so great?

California is expensive because it has great weather, great beaches, incredible scenery and everybody wants to live there which naturally drives up expenses.

Texas is cheap. Thats the only reason.

Also, people arent only moving to Texas. People are moving to places where its cheaper. Also, california is expensive because the tech industries attract a lot of big salary jobs. Which means move expensive housing and lifestyles. Which means more profits. Which means price increases.

And higher taxes, which is why they were considering dividing it into 3 areas at one point. If everybody wants to live there, why are they all moving to Texas?

California has high taxes because that doesn't deter people from all the advantages it has to offer. They are moving to Texas to turn the state blue because they hate you.

Everybody wantes to live there, therefore it got really expensive to live there, and now people who can't afford to stay there must go elsewhere.

Lots of people moving to an area won't drive up the price though. There has to be some change in some sort of policy.

Higher demand to live in area causes more people to purchase homes in an area.
Higher demand means sellers can increase their prices.
Increased home values encourages businesses/development in an area.
Increases property values further.
Area is now incredibly desirable, and unaffordable.

Gentrification 101.

If you don't think high demand with limited supply creates high price then idk what to say. It's like how you can make profit selling new consoles on ebay. Not everyone can live in California, so the more people who want to, the more it can cost to live there.

They do if people want their own house / apartment. The owners see that and jack up the prices. But if they have relatives here and live with them, it doesn't effect it as much. Taxes affect cost of living more than anything.

Taxes is also a attractive state for businesses as well.

But it wouldn't be so bad if most of them changed their politics to match texas but that likely won't be the case for most of them. So texas becoming the next California is a matter of when, not if.

In 1997 a $15000 annual income had a tax rate of $679
In 2020 a $15000 annual income has a rate of $666

However real estate costs have skyrocketed.
In 1997 the average home price was around $200,000, that has increased to almost $500,000 in 2020 ($600,000 when adjusted for inflation).

last time I checked, the fastest growing cities were all the highest cost of living cities and most liberal-Austin, Tx, Nashville, Tn, Atlanta, Ga, Raleigh, NC...Nobody is moving to Lubbok or Midland, Northwestern Georgia, East Tn, Mississippi, Louisiana, and etc.

Lets also add that Seattle, Wa and San Francisco are experiencing high population growth....Jobs and the economy are reason prime reason people are choosing cities. Southern California is mainly based off Hollywood and manufacturing which aren't doing too well right now..Chicago and New York City are cities with a lot of finance related jobs and guess what, that industry isn't doing too well right now.

I mean what's stopping you from moving to Sacramento and other more affordable parts of CA? LA, San Diego, and San Francisco are literally internationally desired cities so yes they are going to be more expensive than a city like Nashville, TN with **** weather and nobody in Poland has probably ever heard of.

It has to do with my career goals and my girlfriend's (short term) lifestyle goals. Basically the best firms are in the big cities, but starting salaries are basically the same regardless of the prestige of the company. However, having a well known firm on your resume can help a lot to get a good position at a smaller firm.
