Never played the game and avoided it like the plague since it released. Now I'm bored and want to try something new, since the only games I've been playing for the past handful of months were God of War and Tony Hawk. No much else is doing it for me. But I hear NMS is, apparently, a completely different game now.

Yeah, it had a FFXIV Realm Reborn-esque turnaround. It's actually got most of the content people were hoping it would have from the beginning.

I tried getting into it but the inventory system is overwhelming as shit and the universe feels empty.

There's some direction and ... a silhouette of a story but nothing to really keep you interested unless you're a fan of survival crafting games.
