Actually I got the leaked dev notes and it turns out female protag is Trevor's estranged daughter. Trevor gets his brains bashed in with a tennis racket in the first act and you take over as her afterwards. Sorry for the lack of spoiler tags, I don't know how they work!

You misread the dev notes. You start the game as a male protagonist, but then get your brains bashed in by Trevor with a tennis racket. Then your girlfriend, Trevor's estranged daughter, takes over as she has to deal with the fact the dad she never met just killed her boyfriend.

i think it'd be cool. female protag in saint's row 3/4 was great.

protagonists in gta are always scum, and i'm always surprised by the number of people that don't realize that. usually the same sort of people that had scarface posters in their dorm rooms

You guys laugh at ExTha, but a GTA5 expansion is a hell of a lot more likely than an actual GTA6. They have no financial reason to make that game.

I couldn't give one fraction of a fuck less. I don't care who the main character is in any game without an established recurring protagonist, and if I did, I'd simply not play the game. I don't know why people cry about insignificant shit like that whether it's whining because of who the main character is, or who the main character isn't.

You know my stance on forced diversity- I am strongly against
But in the case of GTA, it doesn't feel like it would be forced, in fact it's very welcome and not having a female protagonist in not a single main game ever since the first one is the strange thing
From what I can see we had 4 female protags in the first game - but it had zero story for characters, and the only thing going for the character you pick is the portrait - and the in-game avatar that you can't tell it's a female so it doesn't really count
There were also two female protags in GTA2 for the GBC but I doubt they get any kind of character development either

So yeah this is a long overdue and I would like it

theres totally a financial reason.. they can make even more money by selling another $70 game and then putting a huge online thing into that game with even more monetization stuff hooked in from day 1 based on stuff theyve learned in the last seven (?) years and then everyone in the new game has to start over as poor people and buy a ton more currency to be cool again

Since theyre already selling the same game with the same online again on new consoles for $70, I dont think they could get away with starting GTA Online over from scratch, at least not to the huge degree of success they currently have with it. Theyd split the GTAO user base.

If the only way to play GTA Online on new consoles was to start over with a GTAO 2 that comes attached to GTA6 then they might pull it off, but that ship has sailed.

Im fine with a female solo heroine or a part of a team as long as they dont make her the voice of reason in the group. Make her a drug addict, a gambler, a backstabber or just really impullsive person, but I dont want another Franklin.

I mean maybe Franklin had some interesting flaws (I dont remember.) but to me he disappeared almost as soon as Trevor got playable and just became the guy who is the best driver.
