Anti-veg people are so weird lol. I see way more of them talking about hypothetical vegans guilt tripping them than I do actual vegans guilt tripping. Even if some do guilt trip, who cares. They have a lot of valid points and even if they're assholes about it, well lots of people are assholes and it's not unique to one particular group.

I still eat meat to be clear so I get it, I've been like that, but I don't see the point in being so closed minded about it. Eventually I figured there's no point in denying some of the harsh truths, cause they'd still be there whether or not I admit it. And you can do things while still acknowledging to yourself the problems with them.

What's exactly wrong with "meatless meat"? It's clearly labeled and not part of some deception scheme. It's also not crazy to think that vegetarians might enjoy the taste of meat, especially in most of the West where it's basically the default to grow up eating it and then make the choice to change later on. "But it's not really meat!!!!" okay how does that affect your life in any way?

I hear far more complaints from anti-vegans about vegans than I do from vegans about animal products eaters, and one of my sisters is a vegan.

idk working in restaurants for at least 5 years, you run into weird ass statements and views on food every day. It annoys me but I'm not going to argue with semantics when it's 1 person out of 100 daily.

I'm sure you explained it fairly, and they were still dense about it, but this would really be a chance to stock vegan substitutes for those things and get more money.

I only had one asshole vegan come in, but I can forgive her, she was like, 18. When I was prep-cook/front counter service at a ramen bar, we had just started sourcing our meat from the butcher across the street, which advertised 'ethically-raised meat'. All local farms.

Anyhow, she took issue with that and said that 'no consumption of meat is ethical'. At the time, the owner's 50 year old brother was also working the till, and decided to try to argue with her. I mean, duh, there's a scale of how 'ethical' something is. She should be able to admit that and see that these chickens are at least quite a lot happier in their free-roam environment before they are killed for consumption.

At the same time, in a work situation, I'd rather say 'wow, I hadn't thought of it that way. I'll do some more research' just to gloss over the situation. I'm working. I'm not in Philosophy 101. I mean, she walked in and still ordered our one vegan option. Whatever! Can't let it take up too much brain space.

Yeah I get the fake meat stuff sometimes now. If it tastes good then that's great and if it doesn't then you can still move on and continue eating animal meat. I don't understand why people who eat meat would get mad about something that exists partially to help them in transitioning their dietary habits.

And it's gotten a lot better than it used to be, I know that stuff like veggie burgers and tofu dogs when I was a kid were fucking nasty

If you get an impossible burger one time it's not going to stop meat production dude. If it was going to stop it would be well beyond your control anyway.

Maybe if everyone, on the exact same day, got impossible burgers and nobody purchased meat on that same day, it would... probably still not affect anything.

And yes, you just explained how reduction works. It's not like a big secret. Real change needs to happen at scale but nobody is really being forced out of anything. Some people opt early into going vegetarian, or reducing their fossil fuel use, etc., so that they can show there is a market out there for alternatives and have better things developed to get other people on board.

Nor did I say this. Its not an overnight change. But if enough people start getting them, and cause the meat industry to lose money, then it starts to affect something. Which could cause meat to either raise in price, or even slow (and maybe eventually stop) production... Which would kind of suck...

Right now, no one is being forced. But we technically will be if the meat industry has to close... While the loss of meat will be sad, I can just try to avoid most of the fake stuff anyway for the most part (Especially if hunting is still legal, which is probably will be). As long as they don't touch my cheese, I'll probably be fine...

I don't really think it sounds silly. But you might. But I also think trying to get rid of all porn sounds silly. Yet, here they are trying to get rid of it. It would surprise me if they tried the same with meat. Especially since a lot of vegans (but not all) seem to want that. And they probably have a much larger group of people than the anti-porn groups. And even a better cause if the eyes of most people. Though, both amount to taking away something that others like just because they don't like it... Either way, I don't know why you thought I thought it was silly. AFAIK, I said nothing to that effect. I'd rather not lose meat (or animal byproducts) just because others don't like it.

But you are right about the last part. I don't really want to try plant based meats. I have no use for it in my life. Especially with the current cost...

Honestly, I'm not even sure if they have it in my area. I think they had a location tracker and the closet one was like 90-120 minutes away... And I don't mind trying new stuff sometimes... If I want, or I'm feeling up to it. But I'm not really into meat or cheese alternatives. Milk stuff, I might use for something, but probably not on it's own... Especially not with my oreos...
