I've only watched 21 episodes of the OVA so far, Jessica and other civilians just got brutally murdered and I'm pretty sad right now. I never thought I'd be this into an anime that's this old, I admit to being one that needs the newer and shinier anime aesthetics before this. But this has been top quality and in a league of its own so far.

Umm I'm not sure, legally. iirc the physical set is insanely expensive, too. My DMs are open if you want help looking for it though.

The characters in this show are just Muaaach. So fucking good. Like GoT on crack but actually nails the ending.

It did ruin it for a short time afterwards. Kind of hard to watch this then turn on something like Bleach. Be careful discussing it online though, definitely one show where you do not want to be spoiled.

its not that old... unless youre like 20 or something.

you realize this was running during the golden era of anime right? this was airing when anime studios had to deliver quality storytelling or cease to exist, its not like todays business structure where quantity trumps quality. studios today just want content and dont very much care if its any good.

if youre gonna ignore anime from this era youre doing yourself a huge disservice

I consider it old, it's over 30. I didn't start really watching anime until a few years ago, and I still haven't watched a lot of the newer ones that are considered classics. OVA LoGH has a completely different animation and style than what I've found appealing before now. What else would you recommend from that time period?

I have 2 other weebs telling me I need to watch this anime.

You should definitely give it a spin. It's been really damn great.

This topic convinced me to finally give it a whirl, starting episode 6 and it's not bad so far.

As for it being space anime GoT...where the gratuitous nudity and gore? Or have I just not gotten there yet?

yes but it aired for 9 seasons ending in 97. it wasnt all produced and aired in one year.

the modern day stuff is pretty cookie cutter imo. very few new anime interests me. there was vineland saga tho which i thought was very good. it reminded me of berzerk but without the gorey monsters. if you've seen berzerk you'll love vineland saga, and if you haven't seen either id recommend those two.

as for classic stuff there's the highly acclaimed akira, yu yu hakusho, and NGE. but if you wanna stick with LOTGH i recommend the gaiden series, it takes place earlier in wenli's/reinhard's career. its just as good as the main ova!.

thats a common complaint but theres some pretty dramatic shifts in events that shape their respective empires, i dont wanna spoil anything but trust me its juicy fucking stuff. if the dialogue bores you its prob not for you then because its key to understanding the events that take place.

There hasn't been any nudity and I don't think there will be, but there is violence and blood. It isn't gratuitous.

I do know a couple of those. NGE and Vinland, though the latter I used to read. My interest kind of dropped not terribly long after the time skip, unfortunately. I do want to give Akira a shot one of these days.

I don't blame you. I started watching it based off a friend's rec and I went into it wondering if it'll be dry. The first episode didn't convince me it wasn't, but (for me) it got better soon after that. No harm in trying it, though it depends on how much time you have and your interest in it vs other things.
