If you're performing an act in front of viewers who are willing to pay for the entertainment you give them and it brings you an annual income, then it's a job isn it? Same goes for venue performers, street vendors, etc. They dont have a fixed income, but they do make money annually.

Would you say the same thing about a guy begging for donations on the side of the road?

I've always seen streaming and content creation as super difficult, and the ones who do it well have my respect. No chance in hell I could stand doing the same thing every day all day, watch what I say, and be entertaining to people. And then the editing and business side of things as well, oof

It is real, but incredibly difficult and very hard to make money off.
It is definitely not an alternative to typical work, unless you have the money to fall back on or you strike gold early by being in the top1% at something.

Most streamers (even the women) do it for years as a hobby before they can even make enough to make it a career.

I follow some who have been popular for years, but did it for a decade before they could quit their main job. It takes a LOT of time and effort.

I don't think many younger millennials or Gen Z people see streaming as not a job. But, if you get what it is you still have to be realistic about it. Which is that the vast majority of streamers don't make that much money and to consider that avenue as a legitimate career that's sustainable is a joke.

Do streamers pay taxes? To me, that would fit the definition of a "real" job.

Yes, streaming on Twitch or other media platforms counts as an independent contractor.

I was going to post something similar to this. If you're relying on "steaming" and "vlogging" as a source of consistent income, you better be damn good at it and have plans for continuing that source of income 10 or 20 years into the future.

Traditional jobs offer progression and experience within a company or expertise. They offer experience that you can build your resume on and continue to progress and make money throughout your life.

For all the streamers and vloggers who aren't making it big right now, and plan to continue streaming and vlogging, they should have a plan for 10 years from now. Or 20 years from now. "I used to be a somewhat popular vlogger when I was 25, please give me a job at 45 making 100k a year" may not cut it.

Some current vloggers and streams could certainly retire now if they wanted to. That's the exception and not the norm, I'd imagine.

There's an odd acceptance of the shitty 9-5 lifestyle in this country, idk why.

It's like the more suffering you go through the more "legit" your job is

What developed countries don't have a so-called "9 to 5"?
