because third parties aren't a thing in this country, and will never be a thing since the voting system actively resists it? every time a third party gains any headway, it either gets killed off or absorbed into one of the two existing parties.

This. Any time the Democrats are in power, they're expected to play nice, reach across the aisle, and compromise with the GOP. But the moment the GOP gets in power, they say "fuck that" to all of that and work to undermine everything this country stands for.

America's two-party system isn't some romanticized relationship between friendly rivals with a mutual respect and ultimately similar goals.

And people are getting upset at that, which is little more than a soft condemnation of the current GOP and a no duh statement.

Your idea of "most modern countries" is essentially Canada and northwest Europe. The notion that a pro-LGBT and pro-minority civil rights party would be conservative in good chunks of southern and Eastern Europe and East Asia is laughable.
